I'm in the middle of restoring a Record Leader 14 welded steel vice that I found recently - will post some pics when I'm sorted.

Meanwhile, there's a Leader 12 on Ebay if anyone is interested in having a look at one of these fairly uncommon vices :

To put in a financial context, the Buck & Hickman 1964 catalogue shows the following prices (translated to metric) for 6" Record vices :
No 6 £6.70
No 25 £10.00
No 14 £13.75
No 36 £14.75
No 112 £15.25

so the Leader vices were quite expensive - and I think I read on here that Record subsequently dropped then due to manufacturing cost?

Been at it again, couldn't resist as it looked so cute.

I thought it was a bit unusual, something different from the common record wood vices. This one has a very short handle & square guides. There was another Parkinsons vice, I think a no 17 with round guides but the whole quick release lever was missing.

Anyone any idea what age this is, the design looks quite old.

Guess it depends on where one went to school ?
In my dictionary vice is spelled " vise ".

That was their first style of wood vice. From late Victorian period up until around the 30's or 40's they were produced, if I recall correctly.

The mounting arrangement is interestingly different from the UK and US versions of these vices, any more pictures of the mount?

Well spotted cwazy rabbit, it could just be the clamp was trying to escape? When I found this vice the metal clamp (with a lighter in it) was attached to a wooden pole concreted into the floor. I've since been told that the metal foot stem, which was also concreted into the floor should have allowed it to swivel by being placed in a 'douille' or socket that lump of metal next to it. Not the actual one, it didn't have one,this is from the shed. So if a wooden pole holds the bracket and stem, it can then swivel in the socket. Does that make sense?
