Anyone seen one like this before? Aren't these German or Swiss style?

i just love this stand!!Close... Swiss. Picked up on ebay a few years back for £50. Had to straighten the handle, wire wheel and repaint it.
The grinder is original 240V Wolf 8 incher. 3 grinders went into making this one as I was dead set on having it rebuilt using original parts. New set of bearings and it purrs nicely. Not bolted to the floor yet never moves no matter the imbalance of wheels. Great piece of machinery. Grooves in the stone are from tungsten sharpening.
p.s. does anybody know a good place to get a 100-115mm Rotary Steel Crimped Wire Brush for Angle Grinder M14 what i'm looking for is a good quality at a reasonable price, the ones i bought so far just come to bits when i use them.

I was back at the same auction & the other vice was still there, couldn't resist it & bought it for £8!
The quick release lever & rod are missing but the half nut has been wedged in place with 2 bolt heads, so the vice works perfectly!
Such a pretty pair! They both came from the same seller and probably spent most of their life together so it's right that they should be reunited!

Gressel is the only make I've seen with a fixed front jaw, that's what Alx posted earlier. It's possible this one is an older casting shape. Somewhere in this thread, Atconut posted some pics of a Gressel, maybe he'll recognise it.
There were a fair amount of manufacturers with a static front jaw in Germany - Leinen, Boley, Schlegel etc. Some are still around today.
The one in the link for sale in NZ is very similar to vices manufactured in East Germany.

Thanks for that.Yeah, we have a few Polish vices at uni, they're stout little things which have taken years of work well, but the finishing on the castings is poor.

I had a similar problem with a nice Woden wood vice I bought a while ago (and which I have now sold, even made a profit, yippee!). I bought a Ward & Payne vice (who knew they made vices?) which turned out to be crap, surprising really as their other products are amazing so I suspect it was cast elsewhere with their name stamped on. I pinched the lever from the WP and transplanted it to the Woden. I ended up selling both and getting my money back, bought a Record 53A and a 52 in the same style - somewhere in the long list of 'things I will do' is a woodworking bench build which will incorporate this lovely hardware fully restored to Record roundel blue. Someday...
Not sure if I will bother fixing the quick release. That repair is part of the vice's history so it might stay that way. I have came across some burgandy paint, it is some metallic base coat from an abandoned car restoration. A few coats of that topped off with some clear coat will make a nice hard wearing finish.

Went to buy a cement mixer, bought a pillar drill, and got this pipe(?) Vice thrown in.

Definitely a pipe vice, I had one years ago looked like the one in the photo below, I adapted the stand to take a small blacksmith's leg vice that I used at demonstrations/village shows etc. Think I might have the redundant pipe vice knocking about a shed somewhere.

picked up a few more vices,
a snall one with clamp and rotating base
two leg vices i won on ebay, won't collect till Friday
a little record 1, covered in paint but under all that its not seen much use, the jaws are mint
a fortis 11, this has a lot of slop in the handle, it's 1.5 turns of the handle before the jaws move, there is a 7mm gap between shank on handle and vice, i dont think its worn that much, possibly a washer missing so need to make something up

Fortis Vice with swivelling jaws - if anyone is interested, there's one on Gumtree now. Listed as "Engineering Vices" in Knottingly, Yorkshire. Looks a bit rusty, but fine underneath. Asking £70 - which strikes me as pricey. I paid £45 for one in the Highlands a lot cleaner condition and then, amazingly, there was a another popped up in Inverness for £30 a week later, which a friend missed.
Think it's the same model as mine - 4.5" jaws. A very nice size - and I'm totally in love with mine.......
But they don't come up very often - I'd be interested if anyone looks / buys.

Is you get to play with good bits of kit to restore to allow others to enjoy.
Old, seized covered in crud. Only the handle moves.
Plan is to show, educate Shed members on how to de-grease, clean up and bring back to life.
