My Clarke one from machine mart has pipe jaws on the underside. And it rotates so they are at top..iv never used that part but the actual vice has taken some abuse and iv had no issues.

What do people use for new jaws on vices? Few of mine could do with being replaced.

Here she is, a late in the day picture. As by then I had removed the bench clamp/swivel from the base.
Striped down, waiting to be de-greased.
Griped, upside down in another vice, with the tool I knocked up to clamp the Big wing nut.
The wing nut is rust welded into place, but it did work loose from the body.
Oh well, knock up a small de rusting tank.
The whole lot is now in a Hot Caustic soda tank, cooking the years of grease and layers of paint.
The above images were taken at The Men in sheds, the work undertaken was with 2 members.

Striped. Boiled in caustic soda, then washed down with a pressure washer.
Close up the casting details.
I hit it with a wire brush in an angle grinder.
Before anyone jumps up and down and goes mad about the vice is not safe and secure et.
It was only there for picture taking only.
That cleaned up nicely, what finish are you using? They were originally painted red but that would be nice with a beeswax/linseed oil finish.

They were red, that one was red, but the original paint was lost under 4 layers of paint.
That one was finished by using a wire brush on a angle grinder, straight out of the de-rusting tank. The lack oxide slime what covers it, wills seal the metal.
The record 23 I restored is still in the bare metal finish, no rust.
I do seal my metal work with bees wax dissolved into white spirit.
Mind you a WW2 RAF metal dolly was just wiped over with a old rag and linseed oil
The vice here was donated to Men In shed and spent the last 37 years in a Garden bomb shelter. Or as I saw it a WW2 concrete water trap.

Ive got a couple of seized vices - a v rusty Parkinson Samsonia & a Record 75 that isn't too rusty. I'm wondering what the best bet is to deseize them - I've applied liberal quantities of WD40.
I've cleaned up a Record 14 and a Record 112 in an electrolysis bath - but I had them in pieces first.
I'll be seeing a friend who has a serious press over the weekend - but unsure whether I should do more chemical / lubrication before some gentle pressure......
And on a related subject - I prefer jaws that bolt through when it comes to removing them. But I've got a Record 74 where the jaw screws screw into the vice body. The jaws are not too bad - although I'd prefer to remove & clean them whilst painting the vice. Any tips? Or am I just tempting fate in the shape of a sheared screw.......?

Picked this lot up for £30 from a scrap yard today. Couldn't believe my luck when I saw a decent sized vice in the pile of crap, then it just got better.

I bought a vice that was rusted solid & put it into the electrolysis tub. After 2 days it fell open when I operated the quick release lever! It's worth a try but definitely stay away from the press, remember you're working with cast iron. A hammer & block of wood is the most force I would use.
If you want a better penetrating oil mix some ATF & acetone 50/50 and use that.
