What is the proper colour for a Parkinson? This vice will be for display only so it will be restored & painted properly. Maroon isn't a colour I have in stock but I have red, yellow & blue so I could mix something up.

From the various ones that I have discovered what appears to be original paint on it seems to vary from a fairly bright red to a Crimson Red (BS381-540). Most look maroon from years of oil and dirt, but in the hidden recesses it is usually a lot brighter. I would say Parkinson did vary the red they used over the years...... and towards the end they went a bit mad and painted them blue.

To an English man it seems a strange idea to want a leg vice to swivel, but to an American it may be the best thing in the world. On bench vices swivel bases are pretty rare in the UK but extremely common in the US, but I'm struggling to think of an occasion where I'd want to swivel the leg vice, do you know of any? How would you lock the swivelling for those times you want it to stay still?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm genuinely curious about it as I've never seen that style before.

I've done it again - but it wasn't really the vice I was after! The number 186b/0 is on the side which I'm 99% sure is a Woden number. The seller had grouped items together, the vice was being sold with a 6" Wolf bench grinder in virtually mint condition. I should really stop buying online, I've also spotted some genuine Record 34P jaws with the screws that I would love for my big vice...

@cwazy rabbit. You've got me thinking now, the metal stem which fits into the socket has flat edges on opposite sides, and might allow it to toggle 90 degrees, however seeing as the clasp which attaches to the wooden steady has no room to lift, I don't know. I can only assume you can't lock it? Explaining perhaps why the post and stem were concreted in.

Close... Swiss. Picked up on ebay a few years back for £50. Had to straighten the handle, wire wheel and repaint it.
The grinder is original 240V Wolf 8 incher. 3 grinders went into making this one as I was dead set on having it rebuilt using original parts. New set of bearings and it purrs nicely. Not bolted to the floor yet never moves no matter the imbalance of wheels. Great piece of machinery. Grooves in the stone are from tungsten sharpening.

Well my little Woden is very little indeed, I had no idea how small the 0 ones are! It's also not very well. Missing the taper pin, the Woden logo has been ground off (seriously, why...) and the acme screw has been bent. And all the internal working are smeared in hard grease, must be nlgi 4 at least. Just makes it hard to turn. So dare I try and straighten the screw? I'll probably strip it and refurbish it, then decide if I sell it or if the garden shed gains a vice

I do, but I've never seen one. Interestingly the shade of blue on this one is really bright for Woden. Much more like the Record shade.

My Woden pattern is different to yours. Hopefully you can see where the logo has been removed.

Woden are usually a darker shade of blue than Record roundel blue, but this one I've found is weird. Think it might have been repainted at one point. I'll fully restore it.
Nice vices btw. The area that holds the jaws is left bare metal at the factory both on top and the sides. You'll find it starts chipping as you use them.

I think I have the same or very similar do you have any spare bits left? I think mine is missing an end cover and tool rest that bolts to the body of the machine I will have to dig it out

If the part on the vice where the bracket fits is round then the vice should be able to swivel.
A local engineering shop has 6" No. 25 Record Fitters Vice with Quick Release. I would describe it as 9/10 mechanically and jaws condition wise. Straight handle. It's grubby and not in use. If anyone is interested in this beast, send me your offer via PM and I will forward it to the shop owner.
