My welding skills leave alot to be desired, I'm not very consistent. I did this the other day which didnt look to bad for me. Spraying 0.8 on my r tech mig

Some welds I did probably 8-10 years ago with, most likely, my Esab L405 and a spool gun.

I was chopping up a little used shooting ramp to re-use it as gunwale capping.

Got myself a spool gun for my r tech mig, first aluminium beads turned out alot better than I expected!

looks great @pondy very clean welds. but one thing i see im struggling with too when it comes to MIG aluminium (for that reason i hate it, so im not using it on daily basis) is cold starts. tried the hot start option but it leads to stick the wire to contact tip all the time . what i do is starting the arc somewhere near the joint and then weld, im running hot and quick but its not the way it should be done.

the weld on the right side from your 3rd pic is what i would aim for.

That RTec spool gun looks vertualy the same as my Thermal arc one I use it on my RTec 250 MIG but have to used the spool gun controls for wire speed

Also nearly the same as the one tecarc say they manufacture in the UK, apart from the box of tricks it's got to make in universal. I paid £110 new with a roll of 0.8 and 1.0mm wire.

Yep that's the same as mine I payed in the region of £500.00 about 7 years ago

A weld done today with the EWM Phoenix 355 Puls.
Because of the ease of altering settings I am messing around with them more and I feel like I am getting into the swing of things, it is almost Tig like in appearance, or at least to me it is

It allows you to easily feed soft wires plus it also gives you reach, they are usually 8m.

316 Stainless prolongation test this week, done on 3" sched 80.
10l/min purge, 3.2mm root gap no landing. 1.6mm wire 80amps freehand. Size 5 ceramic.
Filled freehand with 2.4wire both passes,
Cap passes were walked with 90amps, size 8 ceramic and 2.4mm wire.
