Bit of premature dipping going on a little bird told me
Finally put down a weld I can consider my "best"... Laid this one last night, 11 days into my TIG welding adventure. Not particularly neat, consistent or tidy but I'm still pretty chuffed with it, being a newbie and all. Excited for a weekend of welding ahead!

First pass of 3 around a 1" 316 slip-on.
Wp18 torch with gas lense and Size 6 ceramic, 2.4 tungsten, 1.6mm rod and 135amps.
Only got around 100 of them to get through
Another slip on, this one being a 4". Same setup except a size 10 ceramic, was a few weeks ago, so couldnt give you exact amperage, around 180-200. Definitely 2.4mm filler though, and gas flow was probably around 15-16l/min.

Lots of different views as to what is and isn’t free hand. It looks cup walked from the marks on the flange. I think I can spot two areas where it’s been very nicely stopped and continued so I’d say it wasn’t turned on powered rotators. Either way I’m sure all will be confirmed and it looks a very neat job.

Freehand? Nope, no freehand on these. Although its not really walked, more like wiggled, being fillets.
No both were done walking the dog, saved burning fingers. 4" done laying in rollers, 1" clamped in a vice. With a bit of practice, if the vice is on the corner of a bench, can get right round it in one hit, just shuffle round lol.
With the slip-ons.... Pass number 2, at 130 amps:
Then capped off with run number 3 at 110amps:
Been welding them in batches of 8-10. Lets them cool right down in between runs. Root all, fill all, then cap them all off
As far as powered rollers go, no need for them on the 1", the pipe is only 300mm. There are a couple of pairs of powered rollers which are in the carbon shop at the moment, being used on a long running 20" tig root/fluxcore job. Its a PITA getting a company to invest in equipment to make jobs easier, when you're getting by with what youve got. The 4" was only a few spools, so easy enough doing in manual rollers.
