came home from maternity hospital after being born (and thereby filling the world with sunshine) in our 650 BSA combo. I used to love going on holiday- start before dawn, chilly, warming up as daylight came on.
Loads of "outfits" then as you could go above the 250cc learner limit if you had a third wheel.
You meet up with other trade apprentices at Tech College, plus of course your mates from schooldays, some had gone on to the breweries as apprentice coopers, so we had outfits with barrels, and of course coffins in various sizes( the most popular "chair"), quite a few with just the frame and wheel to comply.
Anyone recall the "Sidewinder" basic third wheel kit, and I think it tilted?

My wee bro on my 1961 Tiger cub next to my dad's Bonnie that he paid £50 for with 5000 miles on the clock but needing a new frame and forks!

Very nice, they hold a classic scramble and trials round here -passes the back of my house- they don't hang about either. Sadly, very few of em are as well looked after as yours.

Rannaschair, you have the incurable disease of single perversion. Not that fast, but fun at lower max top speeds, fewer horses, but really really big shire horses :-)

I could be very tempted by a older ktm lc4, but then I could be really temted by a lot of things, and need less distraction.
Here's another one that was bought in a "try everything once" moment, a ft500c. Big single 500 xl in a road style frame, going to be fun right? no, it handled crap, everything was wobbly and rubber mounted and the motor didnt have much torque.
I binned it on diesel on a roundabout when I was working near leeds and it hit the high kerb and twisted the frame, and I wasn't at all sad...

I think the only thing from the period that I missed out on trying was a xbr500. A friend had one one and wasn't very glowing about it so I skipped that one.

For the tiger cubs erm... I'm split seeing them now, I spent years messing with them, had a modified cub that was virtually a classic racer in road legal trim with little clip ons and cerani forks etc, and a second ultra rare t20 bantam cub with the bsa frame and b175 heavy duty forks and square barrel sports cub motor, last of the line, twin main roller bearings, trunnion 3ta style oil pump the lot. It still managed to throw a big end on the previous owner though. I rebuilt it and got it running then right before hitting the road poverty hit and I sold it and my big brother gave me his cg125 I was working on tarting up to sell to run round on. The guy I sold the second cub and my cub spares to ran a shop in north wales (Mike Gel of gateway motorcycles on ewloe hill) and filled a transit with all the bits I'd accumulated over the years, but in retrospect it was a good move for me.

Right I suppose I'll have to be the first to admit to being a softy. After many years of sports bikes, I finally succumbed and got the "old man's bike". As the majority of my miles are two-up, on holiday with the missus, it kind of makes sense in some ways (when I don't think too hard).
It's obviously comfy, but compared to my previous bikes (ZX12R - chucked it at Knockhill track), it's dog-slow, but works well for what I use it for.
I still hanker after a mint GPZ900R, my first big bike back in the eighties.
Alternatively, I might get something to scare the bejeezus out of me - I kind of miss that too.
Oh aye - the last picture is one of my almost finished propane tank to air receiver conversion - just need to drill through the wall. and do the connection now.

It would seem I've gained another..... 2006 cbr 600 rr, has had a spill and cracked the crank case where the stator is, allowing oil to leak everywhere. At the moment trying to see if a weld repair in situ is possible, if not its out with the motor

Those cases are really cheap
I only bother welding ones difficult to obtain.

I don't really fancy splitting the motor if I don't have to, it's not the cover its the actual crank case itself

If it's been on its side and oils got out there is every chance gravel has got in.
Unless you know how and where it happened I'd say strip it down.

Crankcases for CBR600 are probably about £1500 or more nowadays, as top one incorporates nikasil cylinders.

Take off the sump plate. Carry out weld repairs using 5356 filler (what I used to use to repair race bikes), then when weld repairs have been properly cleaned up, make sure all is clean inside, and reassemble.

Yes they are a load of money, and can be ruined by idiots trying to plate them and not doing the work properly.............

Here are our bikes. Got Jessica (4) on the LT50, although she is now riding the TRX90 a lot more as the LT is too slow! James (9) on the TRX90 and Sarah (11) on the XR100. And then mine and the wife bikes, VFR800 and CBR400RR. Both bikes have been round most of Europe and up the Stelvio in Italy. The CBR is a lovely bike and goes to show you don't need a big motor for travelling. The wife topped out at a 140mph in Germany! It was one of them moments when you are scared and excited at the same time. She came past me grinning with the bike bouncing off the rev limiter and had to drop my bike 2 gears to catch her!

Got the XR250 to play on with the kids and they are competitive. Been off a few times when I've tried to take them on the corners and they won't slacken off! Good fun.
