My road bike, I've had it from new 14 years now!
Weekend is only so it's still in good nick.
Great on country lanes but the seat is only good for an hour so not much fun on a long run!
It's a bit unusual that's why like it and not many around.
850cc parallel twin, water cooled,
5 valves per cylinder, dry sump engine.
80bhp at the wheel.

Good bikes, I had the use of one of the first ones, driveline lash was quite evident on that one, , I was into aircooled dukes at the time, and had the use of the Trixie whilst the duke was being fettled after a bin.
Always thought it would be good for a special, good motor for a cafe racer/tracker.

I remember Performance Bikes had an article on one that was pretty tricked up, an excellent bit of kit. They rated them highly as I remember (From a time when Performance Bikes was a good magazine!), they were a rival to the 900SS dukes of the same era.

Yep, I did it back to back as I had a 900SS, I felt the trixie needed mere revs than the duke due to its xtra valves, big long sweepers were always (are??) dukes huntin ground, but whilst the trixie wasn't as planted as the duke it went round no probs, plus your fillings stayed in over bumps.
And of course the riding position was better for some (big jessies)

I seem to remember Yamaha did something with the firing order to make it sound more like a V twin than the TDM that donated the original engine, or did I imagine that??!

You didn't imagine it, they dropped a 270 degree crank into it, it also makes the engine less vibratory, I think the new Triumphs use the same set up ( but I could be wrong about the Triumphs)

I remember that one. It had a Spondon/ Harris/ Tigcraft frame can't remember which though and a big bore motor, 6 speed box, rear wheel, swingarm, forks from a YZF750 .
I think it made 99bhp at the wheel!
Mine is pretty standard and a keeper now I think.
I've had about a dozen or more bikes come and go since I've had it so it's part of me really.
As mentioned above they do have a bit of transmission lash at low revs but I've improved it by raising the needles a notch in the carbs and turning up the idea a bit.
It's only needed a fork seal and new water pump in 14 years so cheap enough to run.

There is a lad in america who converts the old british twins to 90/270 degree. He cuts the crankshaft in half puts it in a massive iron jig and rewelds it. Camshafts are available to suit. It transforms the engine, far less vibes and it sounds like a v-twin.

also very impressed with the machines on show, my favourite so far has to be the TY175 i had one as a youth then a gas gas, bloomin great fun so they were, and all because of that TV show "kickstart"

might be a plan to get in there now art, even owd CX 500 s are getting snapped up, DR650, Honda Dommie singles are in the sights of many for specials now, strip the trailie kit of em and lower em and you have nice chuck about single.
I just blagged a Honda Dommie before they get hard to find/overpriced to sort out later.Flogged me woodworking machines to create space, so net cost 'bout 800 quid.
