If he has pairs of cases in usable condition, then best thing to do would be to get the nicest looking pair on Ebay, with high price BIN ad...............hopefully will lead to selling more.

Last motor I saw with that damage had a bent crank taper. I'd check the rotor with a dial gauge before going too far Dan.

Even has the original Lucas light and bell. Don't make lights like that anymore. She's 67 years old, goes perfect, lovely to ride and is my town bike.
Also got an original Lucas poster for the light from the US in perfect condition and is hung in the workshop.
Couple of my other bikes. Haven't used the beach cruiser so will probably sell it.

I bought a new Raliegh Wayfarer in 1973, got it on HP from Halfords with my earnings from a paper round
I fitted a dynamo lighting set similar to yours, but was a "tinkerer" so added a small rechargeable battery so the lights didn't go out when I stopped at junctions etc.

I've got a 1969 Raleigh RSW16 with dynahub lighting. Can't imagine many of the new (Chinese) bikes lasting nearly 50 years !

I remember thinking I'll wire a battery in parallel with the dynamo and it'll charge up as I ride around and also keep the lights on when I stopped, but the Nicad battery I was using wasn't happy so I ended up with a toggle switch that swopped between battery power or dynamo.
Ah memories of doing a paper round in the dark in winter....

It's over 40 years ago, but I seem to remember fitting a Selenium Rectifier I found in my box of "useful bits", I had been collecting electrical/electronic components from around the age of 7 when my Uncle helped me build my first Crystal set

Still available as a kit, I bought all the bits to build mine from a local hardware store when they used stock things like that!.

Some of the old light units had provision for battery power as well as dynamo. The light switch was underneath the headlight and had battery - off - dynamo selection. Mine took batteries inside the headlight shell but I've also seen batteries that were carried in a tube attached to the saddle tube

I remember following a 250 Superdream with one on, it spent more time airborne bouncing down the road as there was no weight to it. Would have driven me mad.
