I take it the next "shed" will be made of girders and metal sheeting (or brick)

I'm thinking underground.... Any one tried that? Success or failure? what about planning? does it apply?

Thought about it to ease our current parking situation but think damp, especially if you are below the water table. I know someone with a subterrain garage under his house, and a day after it rains, the water all oozes through his block garage walls into a drainage system with a lift pump to lift it back to drain level. Over the years he's tried everything interior and I think they resolved to excavate all the way round it this year and fit storm drains and fill the perimeter trench with gravel...

I have found over the years the simple solution is to have the workshop nearer the house where I can keep a eye on it...

Hi,

I've heard a few people talking about underground building for house extensions, etc.

Looking at these house programs on TV, my daughter likes Grand Designs and I see odd bits of it, it looks a good prospect if it's done right. Needs a good waterproof membrane apparently.

It sounds like a plan to have it nearer the house but my next concern is that if they burn it again then it might take the house with it and swmbo might have something to say about that!

Sorry wyn, that is most definitely not a shed.
I know what a shed looks like, I've had some.
Sheds look like sheds, that's where the term of abuse "it's a shed" comes from.

the petrol emits gas ('volitilty')(not quite sure about spelling) and as you heat the jerry can the gas will expand (imagine heating a bottle of acetylene)and then it would of blown the top off and the whole thing explodes (just like a small gas canister going up but worse)

Been meaning to put these up for a while. Not exactly looking it's tidiest, and as you can see the 'cupboard' isn't much of a cupboard yet. I've got some steel to make shelves out of but not got round to it yet. At least the door is vaguely Pikey-proof! Up until last year this was full of a lifetime of my Grandmother's hoardings. Old pianos, leaky canoes, dog pens etc, etc. You know the drill: 'It may come in useful one day'. On the bonfire went the lot!!! Been trying to decide whether to remove the supporting poles, or at least one of them. Right pain in the behind they are!

Early days, I did everything myself apart from pouring concrete into the base:

I wired most of it myself, then got my sparky nephew to do the connecting up and legal bits. 12 double sockets, plus another dedicated one for the compressor in the loft.

i only have a very small 9x16 sectional garage with holes in, my mini turbo is stuffed to one side and compressor tools welders ectect all live around it

me and my partner are both trying to sell our houses at the moment as we have found a lovely house well within our budget with a very large double garage
