The only reason Pro's buy Snap On is the man with the van that calls every 2 weeks and replaces, for free, all the stuff you have broken since his last visit. I've worked in the motor trade and the inflated prices are worth it to save the hassle of having to go and buy replacement tools or try and argue guarantee terms with other suppliers. Don't get me wrong Snap On make decent tools but I would never spend my own money on them.

I have a few bits n pieces and the gear is top notch.
It is extreamly expensive
Some of the items cannot be beaten ie there isn't a spanner in the world that feels and behaves like an OEX in my opinion. But then again I don't think much of the snap on screwdrivers. My last ones were soft when compared to my bahco set. I won't be rushing out to buy more as my tools don't make my living. If they did I would certainly consider some snap on tools.

Interesting you say that about the SO screwdrivers. Bahco are good tools, and owned by Snap on. I've been happy with my PH2 screwdriver from Snap On quality wise, but what I really, really like about it is that when it wears out I hand it over to the man and it's returned with a replacement blade FOC.

That's what made me buy it from there in the first place, as I got sick of buying replacements!

See I had to pay for my last replaced blade because it was worn and not broken.
My bacho set just seem to have harder tips.
I have a 20year old 3/8 sealed snap on ratchet on its original guts. Again I'm not sure I could ever better it. It's had so Much use and abuse there is no chrome Left on it yet it's probably gonna out live me. Some of there stuff is Excellent and some is average IMO. My dream tool box would contain other makes of certain things. But mostly snap on.

Ah, you've a not-so-great dealer then. I have been told that with less helpful dealers you put the tip in a vice then take it in as broken...!

Mine told me wear would be replaced under warranty when I bought it, and true enough he replaces it without question.

In fact, I was buying some more gear off him recently including some pozi bits and jokingly commented I could save myself money and just use the Philips bits and keep quiet about their misuse when getting them replaced, his words were along the lines of 'that's fine, bring it on'! I did buy the correct bits though, just saying that he'll even honor the warranty if doing so costs him a sale.
Maybe that's why I happily deal with him.

I don't know what he does, nor am I fussed; he tells me what he will cover as warranty when I buy something, and he sticks to it.
Whatever his motives, from my position that's exactly how it should be.

its fraud realy but who cares as long as every ones happy all it amounts to is there drivers are no better than wehra but they will replace them and there 3 times there price . i have both types and use every day so can coment on there quality

I'm just sorting out a second short set of spanners, screwdrivers, sockets and tools for the downstairs barn, its a long way upstairs to the workshop. I was going to buy some cheap stuff for downstairs as I don't work down there as often but whilst reading this on the bog I thought sod it. This is not a rehearsal, I'll buy king dick for upstairs and move my mainly britool stuff downstairs. Apart from ancient SO roll cab and top box, closest I have to SO is a blue point trolley, some excellent blue point circlip pliers and some bluepoint sockets.

From where I stand, it's straightforward enough. If it wears or breaks, it's replaced under warranty.
It cost a lot to buy in the first place, but from the user's point of view it'll always be as good as new until I'm dead or SO go under. This saves so much over constantly replacing other brands that the initial cost soon becomes irrelevant.


Britool? I bought one such ratchet and pipe spanners some years ago. Now I don't know if the modern stuff is just rubbish, or if it's knock-off with the Britool brand, but after paying good money for them the ratchet soon started to slip and is totally and utterly useless (well, worse than useless when it end up hitting you in the face), and the spanners never seemed worth having even if they'd been free.
Very disappointing, I bought them after using old Britool socket sets that's decent gear.

Thats why the Britool is going downstairs, I have a mix of good old stuff, crap new stuff and some iffy possible copies.

Been done, with King Tony from Taiwan - actually reasonably good stuff, I've not broken one yet and I bought KT sockets to do hub nuts I didn't have the sizes for, so they had a baptism of fire and 6ft scaffold poles on 3/4" master bar.

I think the old stuff was Britool England and the spanners were bomb proof also. Nowadays it's that britool expert tosh and they just ain't the britool that once was.

Britool nowadays is part of Stanley/facom group and of Far East origin rather than the original British made stuff, which was superbly made.
