Just read through the entire thread and very impressed!
I stick to wood and plastic boats, but have been doing engine and tech work on an 80x 20 ft Dutch built boat. 2 x Iveco 130hp diesels and a stonking great 65 hp diesel bow-thruster. That has a 360° output and can drag the boat around independant of the main engines.
He has spent some time cleaning every internal part of the hull of rust and epoxy coated it. Now it is perfect, he had a minor stroke, OK now, but is considering moving ashore.

The only thing I was thinking about whilst reading through is will you get your money back
Also but I could have missed it. … what about engine after it’s been standing for a long time

As I see it, the only problem with the engines was fuel crud blocking the filters.
As for getting his money back, the budget was quite small to restore it, plus lots of friends help. (dunno how he sorts them out
)This is quite a big boat for the relatively small engines, 12 kts is quite a respectable top speed. In the current market, it should find a buyer.
I might have missed it, but do we know the valuation for probate? That is the bit that governs 'Will he get it back'. But there is the sterling effort to keep his father's boat in decent condition, after his father was unable.

Was not wanting to hijack the thread, but early on, I was wondering about fuel 'bug' and the engines. It turned out he had it.. The Dutch boat I mentioned.. He did his three monthly general check. Started the engines.. Port OK, Stb, started then stopped. He did a bit of bleeding, but no change. Called me, and there was no flow from the injector pump. Pulled it and we went off to my preferred specialist. Explained the prob and I suspected a shear in the HP side.
Well, the pix came back with the drive to the distributer section sheared and rust all over the system. We were well puzzled as the filters were changed at the last service and no probs. Pulled the other pump (CAV DPA types) and more rust. So sent that off for a rebuild too. €3.5K for the two.. Ouch!
Ripped out all the filters and cut them up, along with checking the tanks. No sign of water anywhere. We were left thinking the results were from much earlier, before he had it, just delayed.

The engines are both running fine, I've done about 40 hours on them now and because of the old diesel I'm planning to change the filters about every 40 hours of running. She has a quarter of a tank left in her then I might open the tank and see how bad it is.
The question of getting my money back is a tough one but I think I will be OK.

I jinxed it by saying the engines are running fine. Went for a little cruise today and the starboard engine kept cutting out. Kept getting air out of the system and it would run OK for about 20mins then would play up again.
Made it back to some moorings and went through the system fitting new filters on my way and decided to change the seals on the tank pick up and it fell apart. My soldering skills clearly were not up to the job so it needs doing again. This time by someone with the necessary skill.
I've cleaned it all up ready to have a go in the morning but for now BBQ and cider are calling

Surely the easiest thing to do would be to crank an engine and observe the prop rotation?
