My son went to Bristol uni & we visited the Great Britain a couple of times, interesting thing about her wrought iron hull plating is that it didnt use standard sized plates, they came out all sorts of sizes & were then trimmed & shaped to fit. She was already an old ship when she was hulked in the Falklands & got really thin sitting there all those years. Many of her design features were surprisingly modern.

That propeller looks a bit odd, but was nearly as effective as a modern one.

I took a few days off work to make the most of the good weather and get some paint on the deck.
I've got the stripes on the sides to finish and some more white that I couldn't paint due to the ropes. Then a full machine polish and sort out the odd drip of paint where it shouldn't be.

As this weekends weather is rubbish I'm doing a job I've been putting off for a little whilst. I've made a little pump and filter set up and today pumped 18l of water out of the diesel tank. The diesel in there is very old and needs to be polished so I got it pumping through a racor style filter.
Not sure its going to do much and I may either have to drain the tank, clean and refill with new diesel or call in a pro diesel polishing guy.

I made a very similar set up after seeing a guy on YouTube who had made one
I have still not used mine yet I only made it two years ago!

Bit more filtering today before I killed the pump. Probably would have had the pump after the filter to protect it but it was only a cheap one.
It feels like an inch of crud on the bottom of the tank so will have to open it up to sort it during the winter.
I'll also filter the old diesel in tanks so I can put it back in to save a few quid

diesel goes manky after a fair few years even though it looks allright

Personally I would bin it. I know it hurts, but it'll probably cost you more
in the long run. Just get rid of it, clean the tanks, and refill with new.

Sort it over the winter! Does that mean youve become attached and are not selling….
I too would bin the diesel, clean tanks and replace. Not worth the bother messing about trying to clean it, sell it to someone with a waste oil garage heater

Due to the low valuation was given I paid the moorings till next April. The Mrs wants us to enjoy it for the summer now 95% of its done. Funny as after I did that they upped the value by 20k 
I'm going to take it back to the yacht club my parents were members for nearly 30 years for her last cruise and I can also visit their bench and the spot their ashes were scattered.
The boat sales have advised putting it on the market early next year so I want to make sure there is nothing left to put off a buyer so a clean tank, new diesel and plenty of photos for them to prove its been done.
Fortunately I can burn this diesel over the winter in the waste oil burner

Yes, mate bought a portuguese fishing boat with a two pot Lister. Engine would run, but huffed and smoked and no revs. He tried various fixes, but an old guy was passing and asked for a bit of fuel. Mate dips the tank and passed it over. Guy sniffed it and pronounced it duff. Yep, just needed fresh fuel. Sitting in the heat for a couple of years had evaporated the light parts of the fuel;, leaving the less combustable stuff.
Years later, we were tidying ship prior to sailing to gib, when a a boat puttered past in the Marina. mate said 'Hey, thats my old boat' and hailed the very bronzed bloke on the tiller. It appeared he was just back from Greece (!)
Boat was about 20ft long and had a low cabin (sitting only) with a bit of a shelter over the helm.
I was quite impressed.
Same trip a day later, off Cadiz, a 'slightly' younger me. ;o)
