A builder was telling me plastic pipe for drainage going up 38% and timber 67%. I was a bit sceptical of the % rises as he is a bit of a bull sh1tter but it seems all raw materials rising fast.

Over the last 12 months timber has increased by just shy of 80% in total, and went up 51% in Jan/Feb this year alone. Polypipe civils 17%, and MOT type 1 by 33% in April. Don't forget the knock on products made from those materials too, kitchens, bathrooms, tiles, paint, plaster etc etc.
There are going to be a lot of cancellations and renegotiations in the next few months.

Well I've just had enough timber, shiplap and sheet materials delivered this week to build a 2.4 m x 2.4 m shed (plus a bag of sand and a few bags of cement). It set me back nigh on a grand so yes, material prices have gone silly.
Wife says I need to do the fence as well. It's only 18 m but that'll be another grand at least.

They need to be careful or this will be the final nail in the coffin for British Steel.

Not going to be long before the increases flow through the economy I would think....it's a combination of high demand and low supply. I was reading that in the USA lumber prices have gone insane.
Roll on 1970s inflation I'm thinking?....if only we could have the 1970s cars to go with it.

Trades rates seem to be on the up too, for the same reasons presumably. Not enough skilled labour available, so firms are having to pay more to recruit and consequently domestic and sub contractors are upping theirs to keep pace. I guess that's showing in property prices too as they seem to have been climbing steadily recently.

Nostalgia is a funny thing, given enough time rusty, unreliable, uncomfortable, dangerous cars become objects of desire; and a combination of inept politicians and ridiculous union demands bringing the country to a stand still whilst killing off industries left right and centre seem like the good times.
