The only advise I can give anybody is dont wait until you need the steel to buy it, they will have your pants down everytime. Try to stock it if you can.
Steel plate is getting silly aswel, many companies bidding on seconds, even thats hard to come by now. This is mainly bent, scratched or heavily rusted or all 3. Surprising how many companies accept seconds.
Your talking garbage. But I am sure you will be happy while the rich just keep getting richer and more and more food banks get rolled out in Hartlepool.Unions?
Yeah, lets go back to the halcyon days of closed shops, conveners deciding who does what and when, calling a strike because someone's been asked to do their job and having their hands in the pockets of working men. By the late '70s they were worse than the people they were supposedly fighting on behalf of the workers.
Fortunately it's never going to happen, Unions have had their day.
Next door booked his fence to be done last week just 7 posts and they cancelled as they can't get the posts from anywhere round here. Its the same across all the trades, a fencing contractor I know imports all his material from the EU by the truck load and on items like feather edge he is chucking about 25% of it away because of quality issues, more grief than its worth to try and send it back.
Bob
Funny that...my neighbour said the same yesterday. He called up our local fence place (they only do fence materials)....bloke said if you find some posts let me know!Next door booked his fence to be done last week just 7 posts and they cancelled as they can't get the posts from anywhere round here.
As long as it goes up in a circle I dont have a problem with it really.
Brother lives in Sweden. He works in a stationery company, something to do with logistics. Hes on around £25/h and that's a fairly low level admin job. But. Hes taxed heavier than here and the cost of living is higher because people are paid fairly, so the guy in the shop on the checkout is also paid roughly what my brother earns. The taxes go back into the community - he says you can actually see this rather than just read about it. Not sure of the ins and outs, as we usually have more interesting things to talk about! Trades are paid well - his father in law is a roofer and I cant remember what his rates are but its a lot higher than any roofer here. Again, everything else costs the roofer more so its all relative.
His disposable income is roughly what mine is, in relative terms. It seems to work there. Not sure about here but there it does. I do not think it will happen here as people always want more and spend less but it'd be nice.
Afraid from what I've seen of unions in automotive and aerospace here and in the USA . . .Your talking garbage. But I am sure you will be happy while the rich just keep getting richer and more and more food banks get rolled out in Hartlepool.
Next you will be saying soup kitchens and work houses are a great idea. Thank god we no longer have many chimneys in use.
Similar experience here for me and anyone I know who has experience with unions in the workplace. Even in the 80s there were a good many factories and workshops where you had no choice but to join. Under any other circumstances it would be called extortion.Afraid from what I've seen of unions in automotive and aerospace here and in the USA . . .
When you see what the union leaders working for the benefit of the working man take home . . . and the home they go home to . . .
And when I see the ridiculous attitude of some stewards - being awkward for the sake of it ( not all of course). When I hear stewards telling guys to slow down at work . . .
When you read the history of 1970's industrial action . . .
Seeing a mate of mine, having paid his dues for all his working life, get absolutely no help when he needed it . . .
Well, lets just say I'm not in one . . .
And this is what we get now.Similar experience here for me and anyone I know who has experience with unions in the workplace. Even in the 80s there were a good many factories and workshops where you had no choice but to join. Under any other circumstances it would be called extortion.
Fortunately those days are over.
Unfortunately the current state of affairs is a case of 'you reap what you sow'. The backlash against the abuse of power, corruption and pettiness of the unions in days past have created a generational distrust. So now the pendulum has inevitably swung the other way and people will/are suffering. And this is what we get now.

Wondering if anyone can help, I resigned from my job, I’m currently in my notice period... notice period ends 4th July.
My reasons for resigning was the false promises of increasing my salary, been doing a general managers job for over a year on a duty managers salary. Constantly being promised £2k payrise. Kept getting put off all the time.
Anyway, I’ve resigned and seen via the scheduling system they’ve recruited a new general manager on the increased salary I was promised! (22 year old male) I’m 29 year old female.
Is this even allowed???
I now feel completely discriminated against, ever since speaking up about it, they’ve removed me from the Rota system so I’m unable to see any information, they’ve removed my email access and deleted me from work group chats. (May I add ive been off sick with work related anxiety & stress - however my notice is still active with them) Current time of employment is just over a year maybe about 14 months.
Am I eligible to take this further and I feel there’s some discrimination going on! Any advice will be much appreciated"
This is not a one off by any stretch of imagination.
I always remember reading the story about the union boss on £140k a year who refused to leave his council house....was it Bob Crow?I often find, with humans, any form of power corrupts them.
Best advice is go and see an HR/Employment Law Specialist Lawyer, the first 1/2 hour consultation should be free and you will quickly establish how strong a case you have, second best advice is don't take advice from unqualified, uninformed but undoubtedly well meaning people. And this is what we get now.

Why should he?I always remember reading the story about the union boss on £140k a year who refused to leave his council house....was it Bob Crow?
Never forgot that story.
THAT is not the point. It's the fact it's happening by the thousands and it's only going to get worse. If you believe all you read and hear on TV you are going to be mistaken about what you think unions did ....this is the real world.Best advice is go and see an HR/Employment Law Specialist Lawyer, the first 1/2 hour consultation should be free and you will quickly establish how strong a case you have, second best advice is don't take advice from unqualified, uninformed but undoubtedly well meaning people.
and what if you experienced it and saw it with your own eyes?If you believe all you read and hear on TV you are going to be mistaken about what you think unions did ....this is the real world.
How convenient......so the money keeps making more money with artificial price rises.BBC News - Travis Perkins warns of price rises amid shortage of raw materials
