Sell the latest one and buy a TS350....
I'm going to skip the first part of that suggestion and go for the latter
Headed for the local TS350 shortly it's an itch that I will scratch and definitely no more Stihl equipment after this. For sure this time. Really. I promise.

It's a bit cosmetically challenged but all there at least. Too late to try starting it but seller said it won't start so there is that.
The throttle is also stuck, spray oil won't do it so I'll see what's up there. It fails the hold on its cord compression test but at 45 mins drive away and for £40 I was for taking it home regardless! I did a quick bore inspection with my endoscope and I don't see any signs of damage or scoring so that's good.
It says Made in West Germany on the recoil cover which is pretty cool, must date sometime in 70s or 80s then.

havent had time to sort mine yet but it has the bits on i need thanks

It has compression, but not enough to run I dont think, my money would be in crank seals, its in better physical nick-than my working one, which when it dies with be replaced with new probably battery as Im an occasional userthe one you gave me seems to have more compression than the one i have

This afternoon I saw a hedge trimmer at a local auction based on one of those. Construction not a lot different from the con saw, pulley drive going to a gear box driving a single sided hedge cutting blade about 20" long. It had the small air filter but even so the whole thing was very long & heavy, I really wouldn't fancy using it for more than a few minutes!

I will say the TS350 is noticeably heavier than the 400's but I am interested to see how the 2x saws compare when running and working

Looks like a Super, they have different pull starts and a few other bits slightly upgraded from the standard 350.I hope you all are happy

I think they had a bigger bore cylinder. Worth checking before ordering parts.

As you can see the filter is a bit rough
But you can buy a full copy set of the bay of thives for 11 quid
With luck hope you have zama carb on yours they easy to get carb kits for as I've go the what seams to be rare Tillitson one 212 I think and there are only a couple copy sets on ebay
Oh and the carb is all levers so very easy only hard bit is getting the air filter housing back on with out droping the gasket inside as you have to put the handle cover on before the air filter

Yes this one says Super on the side of it and I didn't realise that thanks for pointing out. Does seem like the Super one has slightly more CC so would be a different cylinder kit.

Yes the filter on mine isn't terrible but needs replacing as very old. Someone had it off and replaced backwards but from the dirt on the positive side it hasn't been ran like that.
I will order a filter kit for it just checking what all I need for it. Throttle spring is knackered and almost completely rusted away
Replacements are available online for like £1.50 which is good.
I went to drain the fuel tank and fuel came out of places it shouldn't have! Took cover off and the fuel pipe / vent? system is clearly incomplete
I think the carb is a Tillitson one. I have a spare used genuine one coming in post anyway and a rebuild kit which is aftermarket so hopefully not a waste of time.
It does have strong spark and 100psi compression. Whilst not ideal that should still be enough for it to run once the fuel system & trigger is sorted.
Bearing in mind this saw looks like it has not run for many years I would guess that after it's been run for a bit with fresh fuel and oil being burnt it may improve the rings sealing. Not sure what min psi spec is but this is likely borderline acceptable.
Given my Husky on 2x new cylinder kits could only muster 100psi I'm not too bothered to go looking for an aftermarket cylinder kit for this one. I am considering putting new piston rings in it however which should increase the reading too.

i have a couple of 350 s had them 30 years one of them ran but the starting pull chords didnt work dunno if they will still run if i replace the pull

It doesn't want to start up. Seemed like a faint attempt at one point but overall dead. Fuel was coming out the back of the carb.
it is a Tillitson carb and I took it off as kit should be here today. The diaphragm looks stuffed on it.
So I guess that needs rebuilt first and try again. But there is a metallic noise from inside the engine. Crank bearings feel tight so I don't think it's an issue there. But maybe a small end bearing or it could be something making noise on the clutch side which will need further investigated.

! tip recycling shop ! youv'e got to jump through burning hoops just to get stuff in the tip here never mind take anything away , you'd think they'd be glad as they'd spend less getting rid of it . I liked the one in pelaw, Durham. They did let you buy stuff, I never asked the last time (about five years ago) went but I’m guessing they stopped it. In the 90s my parents would take me to get rid of rubbish and I’d buy rubbish to take home.
I’m tempted by some Stihl saws on the bay, 8 for 265! I know I shouldn’t! I buy too much broken stuff.
