If any member happens to have a unbroken spare available please do let me know. Cheapest on ebay is £28+post which is a bit rich IMO.

Well I did a quick compression on the stihl and the 770 ( I needed to change the filters and plug anyway ) the TS 400 came in at poorish

90 psi , although it still consistently starts 2nd or 3rd pull everytime and the K770

a good 130 psi ish , on the test hits 90 psi by the second pull .

Well bugger me the comp.tester does have a schrader valve havn't done another test , iv'e put new pull cords in both saws

used a good old joiner pencil for a bit of graphite lube , that's the TS ready for faceache .

that's the 770 done , but when I was in my box of bits found this

and I'm pretty sure it's the spare starter pawl from when I had a 350 it's to big for a 400 so if anyone wants it drop me a pm .
I will still do another compression test on them though .

I do have an AC DC welder yes although not very much alu welding experience if that is what it is. Its not magnetic anyway perhaps magnesium not sure.

I have put it through my parts washer this evening and I will try alu welding it tomorrow evening after work and see if I can get it to take.

Think your over thinking this its a cut saw unless its what you want if your going to sell it later a small chip out of it won't make any difference unless your doing a full resto on it

Yes I am doing a full restoration on it now since it has to be taken all the way apart it makes sense in my mind to blast and spray the parts.

So doing all that and having a chip missing would be a shame so I'll try and address that before painting.

just had a look and ive got one on a 350 saw, got the whole lot you can have free .dunno if its worth your while posting the lot or just the handle cost wise

One thing which is quite annoying on used concrete saws is the... concrete.

One of my TS400's was clearly dipped into wet concrete and not cleaned after so it hardened onto the saw. So I was searching for a cleaner which doesn't attack plastic or paint but dissolves the cement. First testing on this one neat is working very well. 1 hour in and the cement coating is almost all gone and zero damage or scraping to the plastic required. Will allow it to steep overnight as it does not appear to harm plastic at all but fizzes on cement.





(Don't touch this stuff with bare hands! I had quicky rinsed the part in the sink just before the pic above then put it back into a shallow bowl of the solution to steep)

This is the Stihl flywheel removal tool for the TS350 saws:




Worked great. That thing was on there but a small impact on the bolt and it broke free easily with the proper tool.

If any members require the use of this tool at any point I am happy to loan it FOC so long as you promise to return it.

If you tap the flywheel into the taper with a sharp heavy crack the flywheel will pop out off the taper.

I did try heat, I secured the flywheel in the vice and used a brass punch and hammer to try and drive the shaft out but it wouldn't budge. I hit it so hard the flywheel was shifting in the vice's grip and it would not come off.

I didn't want to risk breaking anything so the tool was a useful item for my use anyway and for future maintenance getting to coil etc.

I saw on the internet someone just holding the flywheel then whacking the crank end hard with a hammer, I didn't believe it would work but it did!

Something I was taught as a kid and have used many times since (just last month to pop the magneto of an old farm machine):
Undo the nut on the end of the shaft so it is lose but protects the threads on the shaft
Use a couple of levers (tyre levers if you have clearance, or old screwdrivers) to gently lever the rotor off the taper - it won't come lose this is just to put tension on the joint.
Tap the end of of the shaft to shock the taper lose.

It has a decompression valve but no choke lever or control that is automatic. Any youtube videos of them show them starting up first pull when when cold and nothing further to do choke wise.

Yes indeed- this one is also broken already! Well the seller says it starts up and then cuts out until cold again. I did see some interesting you tube videos on these saws it seems like the main issues are wires coming loose or rubbing causing issues so I'll check that first.

Of course it could be something else worse and I'll not really know until I get my hands on it but seems like a good saw and step up power wise. The TS410s are carb engines and IIRC less power than the TS400s so didn't interest me much.
