It has a decompression valve but no choke lever or control that is automatic. Any youtube videos of them show them starting up first pull when when cold and nothing further to do choke wise.

Yes indeed- this one is also broken already! Well the seller says it starts up and then cuts out until cold again. I did see some interesting you tube videos on these saws it seems like the main issues are wires coming loose or rubbing causing issues so I'll check that first.

Of course it could be something else worse and I'll not really know until I get my hands on it but seems like a good saw and step up power wise. The TS410s are carb engines and IIRC less power than the TS400s so didn't interest me much.

Thanks for that- well I don't even know for sure if it does run this is the saw advert:

Another saw that’s been in storage for years and years,

From memory it started and ran but maybe stopped after a few seconds till cold again then it would start , never got repaired,

Since then it has the recoil pinched and some grommets and bits from the guard like the flanges,

So taken the above into account here it for spares or repairs

So hopefully when it arrives tomorrow/ Tuesday it won't be seized and I can start checking it out properly.

The primer bulb appears split in the pics so I have a new genuine one ordered too. (£5 as its the plastic bulb only) I have a new spark plug coming too and will try and get it running first with that then take stock of what else is missing but not much.

The other interesting thing I have heard guys who specialise in the fuel injected Stihl chainsaw repairs say is that there is a "reset" procedure for running problems.

They say that a user complaint can be that the saw bogs down and loses power at revs. That means it's actually in a limp mode of sorts. The reset is very simple - allow the saw to idle untouched for 15 minutes that that should have reset it and it will rev out again as normal.

I will try that too as soon as I get it running all being well. Let it sit and idle for 15 - 20 mins then try using it.

Stihl TS400 no 3 is now all done- thank you to @angellonewolf for hooking me up with a good used original cover. Far superior than the aftermarket soft plastic junk replacements. Saw is running fantastic I also tried out one of these fancy metal cutting diamond blades. Works quite well actually - leaves a rough enough cut but then again when using a Stihl to cut something precision isn't top of the list! Great for not having to stock several abrasive wheels and that it will retain its full diameter of cut when cutting up a scrap car etc

Can I tap up the con saw knowledge here ?
I have to cut a new doorway through a 5 1/2" wall but my saw only goes to 4". Any smart ways to to do this from one side only?

Remove guard, fit bigger blade…..go out,get someone else to do the job

Well I can now definitely say that using a petrol Stihl saw in the house is a very bad idea!
The structural wood chip wallpaper did a surprisingly good job of keeping the rubbish out of the bedroom the other side though

But the lintel is in place ready for the wall to come out tomorrow.

Well I can now definitely say that using a petrol Stihl saw in the house is a very bad idea!

If you are more than 75% through the masonry anyway I would say it will break out just fine. Maybe drill the outer corners to help it crack in the right places.

chain drill whats left after cutting and use a bolster chisel from top downover to finish of removing the blocks or bricks

Bit late but get a bigger saw 14" / 350mm That's exactly why I swapped to a 350mm blade I was sick of not being able to cut all the through a single brick , my K770 with a 350 blade has a 125mm depth of cut

Not at all - anyone can post whatever they like here con saw related!

I did realise today many years too late that when I am washing my cars it's always in a large puddle. The tarmac has sank a little in my drive and the water was not getting to the gully any more. So I cut a narrow tapered slot from the middle of the puddle to the gully and now the drains away nicely once again no more large puddle right where I wash my cars



Testing above- the water runs away from the wall then into the track and back into the gully and away.

One big con saw hole!
The saw was struggling with a lack of power so I might get a new eBay carb for it or a reconditioning kit.
