Ah now I understand. You only get weekends to do DIY…..if you retire, theres no need to rush these things, you can expand the jobs to fill the time available.
As a very occasional user now, if mine dies Im going battery. If find using Sthil fuel I get very few issues.

Well it'll be at least 30 years until I retire and that is also assuming the Gov don't keep moving the age of 67 forwards as years go on!

Oh to be young again, and have the energy and enthusiasm for DIY projects. In 30 years concrete and two stroke saws will probably be banned.

I have absolutely no use for a petrol saw. But now, having read the whole thread, I want one...

Inspired by the work on this thread I decided to see why my strimmer wasn’t happy.



You may remember it from a thread last year with the title “Seller said it was working fine when they used it last”… spoiler: I had to fit a new barrel & piston before it would run

This year is starts ok from cold but gets worse as it warms up. My guess was seals so I stripped it.

Todays questions:
Is a 2 piece crank normal on these modern motors?
If not, what’s best to fix, will superglue hold?

What make is it if not sthil or husky tanka or kawasaki I think I'd bin it if its one of the China copy's they are ok infact I've got one of there multi tools units that's been mine fore a few years but was only a year or 2 old when I got it with broken bulb and fuel pipes and was missing the strimmer head as well only get used twice a year aprox but starts well (as long as I empty thr fuel out after use)and got lots of power but if it broke I'd not by parts as 2nd hand cost pick one up for 40 to 60

I am back catching up on my projects after USA holiday. The Stihl TS400 I am completely rebuilding for myself had some further issues. The original saw was all bust up so I had got a good price on a spare engine assembly from a forum member






But once I took the top cover off I found hidden cracks in the engine casing. Bugger. So I got another engine casing from ebay good used for £10+ post.




Another good spare crank out of this one too.

I paint stripped the fuel tank to make it faster to bead blast and these are the main items to be blasted in the coming days, etch primed, assembled then final coats of Stihl Grey. That will be a good baseline for a restored TS400.

I have progressed the other project saws slowly in the past couple of weeks. I have 2x I'm prepping for sale first then back to my own TS400 rebuild.

I have a large Stihl chainsaw for medium- large trees but always wanted a smaller top handle one for debrancing and small trees. The MS201 was top choice but always too spendy for my liking. I made a cheeky offer on this one tonight on the bay of thieves, which was accepted spares or repair condition. Carb missing. But otherwise looks semi decent will see when it gets here

This one will take priority as I'll be needing it before I'll need the other spare con saws going.

Updated elsewhere but will add here for this thread. This little saw is now completed and ready for work



I did also finish another TS400 on Saturday, advertised it on FB and it sold the next day. Made a few £ on it nothing to write home about and besides my own TS400 resto I won't be buying anymore of that model I've played with a few of em now.

Whiskey and late night ebay trawling at the weekend means there will soon be another saw landing on my doorstep spares or repairs basis no idea what is wrong with it

TS480i fuel injected consaw (technically my 3rd fuel injected consaw but who's counting?)



It does appear to be complete which is important as the spares costs add up quickly. I do see the water valve is a standard one and not it's original electric one so what other tomfoolery will there be....

Definitely not buying any more Stihl products. Ever. For sure.

I received this saw todaya and got to it briefly. Long enough to confirm it is all complete and the electronics are working as it has spark.

My other TS480i has 150psi compression. This saw was about 80 so I think it's plumb wore out is the problem!



I did put a camera into the cylinder and didn't see any obvious scoring. So I'll take the cylinder off tomorrow night and see if it needs a piston kit or a whole cylinder kit. Either way still a good buy even if it does need the whole cylinder kit everything else is there. I would like to replace the water valve with the proper one but this saw is intended to be a flipper so it likely won't hang around for that.

Saw is running perfect like these fuel injected ones always do. It's had a whole new cylinder kit because the original was not salvageable. It's for sale in the local adds now as I need to pay for the other Stihl projects that keep coming My own TS480i and TS500i arent going anywhere.

Husky K760 next to be rebuilt which is the last Husky saw I'll ever have around the place. POS those things.

Update on this Husky, I got it stripped down and all the casings and crank etc cleaned. This was the one with the crankcase full of water. New bearings and oil seals and it's now back together turning really smooth and ready for the piston and barrel which will be an original spare one I have VS the scored aftermarket one that was on it.

Head bolt was also terrible due to someone ramming an m6 bolt in there had to weld a nut on just to undo it. Helicoil repair completed

An update on this K760 Husky. I tried to start it a couple of weeks back and it was a no go. Turns out the compression was a little low and the cylinder was too far gone to save. I got a new cylinder kit for £29 which was surprisingly great quality.

I got it back tougher today and it fired up second full and runs really nice. Nicer than any Husky I've had before! So that's another dead saw back to life, fully serviced etc and it will also be sold on as I have too many 2 strokes now for sure
