Replaced the power steering fluid cooler on my X5
Radiator removal required so bought new antifreeze, the hoses slide onto the radiator with a clip to lock them in place, very clever design but with the bottom hose I thought it was fully seated…. No it was 5 mil short so the clip went in but was locking onto nothing, hose blew off antifreeze everywhere which is a bitch to clean up and in £28 out of pocket for more antifreeze.

Almost as bad as filling the engine with new oil after forgetting to put the sump plug in first!

Well, mostly. She's a frozen shoulder, so is also crippled.

Bought a watch case but needed to remove the bezel.

Sadly it not designed to be removed as I expected caused a fair degree of damage, had to order a replacement. Live and learn.


It's not all lost though as I will keep the case and remake the bezel in the future.

The original was a varnish.
The french polish was applied with a "Rubber". The sanding sealer finish was tidy and even.
The French Polish is uneven.

Oops I dun it again, I really shouldn't have taken this vintage sewing machine foot pedal to bits, it was a working but filthy barn find full of cobwebs, but now some of the carbon disks have crumbled to bits, I knocked over the dish with all the bits and had I go hands and knees - head torch mode, I got them all back only by luck.

French polish needs a lot of preparation we used to do gun stocks and there's no way you can just do a quick job with it. Varnish is going to be better for that everytime.

Got a quote for repairing the bodywork on the nearly new work van we have on leasing.

1500 euros, after I scraped it on a wire reinforced block of stones a 'gabion' in French.

Luckily it's covered by the insurance, still felt pee'd off.

My hire vehicles have a £1000 excess. For only £10 a day I can pay extra insurance and get the excess down to £200. Considering I have been renting of Enterprise constantly for 12 years imagine how much that would have cost me

Offered to adapt a rectangular roof rack onto my mate‘s Pug van. Wished I hadn’t started the job.

Looking from the back of the van, the rack mounting points splay outwards towards the front…
…and are angled outwards.
From the side, the mounts curve downwards.

There’s not a straight datum on the pissing thing to measure from.
