I am down "in that London" again and the heat yesterday evening was just unbearable. I am in a "trendy" hotel just off Piccadilly Circus. It is terrible though the aircon works brilliantly so just this once I will let it go. It is a sort of Japanese Sushi bar themed place with "Cocoons instead of rooms and they are sparse as in there is nothing in the room, no kettle (had to go out to get coffee, without which my day cannot begin) and no iron so hopefully my shirt is without that Crisp Packet look when I get it out.
Shocking really but in the heat the aircon is so very welcome. I have stayed in plenty of places down here where they haven't even considered aircon let alone installed it. I just know I am going to be a wet rag the second I walk outside which is really unhelpful. I can guarantee the office I am going to will have aircon though as it is populated by govt. ministers so will be full on climate controlled.

I was down with wife in the Big Smoke yesterday, flying trip down on the train and back - can confirm the uncomfortable stickiness that it was! Very glad when we got back on the train that we somehow lucked upon a carriage with excellent working AC!

Lovely and warm here, took the dog to the park early (before 8am) and he dived headfirst into the old pond to cool off! Wifey was not pleased.

Paint's drying well though maybe a little too warm to let it flow out properly.

36 here now, I am the whitest person on the beach covered in factor 50 and silly hat on, my consultants otders post chemo etc, just jad a swim in the sea, a bit warmer than the Atlantic of Scotland.

I stopped complaining about UK summer warmth when I spent time working in the USA - when its 110 outside, and you walk into a flat roofed plant with no air con, no air flow, full of heat producing machines as well as a whacking great conveyor oven . . .

Timely discussion, as I just fixed our small window-mount air conditioner yesterday (it just needed the filter to be cleaned). However, we only use it two or three days each year, since we're spoiled by the great summer weather here in Maine. We have some wildly disparate climate areas here in the US, and we've lived in some of the hottest parts of the Southwest, but we've been in Maine at the northeast corner of the country for over 15 years now, and IMHO summer weather doesn't get much better. Here are some summer averages for Brunswick, Maine, rounded off to the nearest degree:

Winter, however, is another story...

Too hot to do anything apart from sit still and sweat.

Fixed the oil leak on the 55 moggy, it has the felt type oil seal so it will always be a bit drippy but it was a good time to fit the recon original water pump and paint everything with mowog green engine paint.

Not to hot here so did a bit of sawing and sanding.

Not too sure if it was oiled or varnished, so started off with 60, 80, 120 then 240 and cut out a sink insert. Will finish with Osmo Polyx.

One done and another to go.

Bit of fun.

Turning rusty stuff into stuff to be used.

A bit of heat and citric acid.

A Bit of elnow grease.
On sale in a well know German supermarket. In the middle bit.

Shaft fitted, a nice snug fit, a wooden wdge and a bit of 2 pack.
The shaft hole was not a smooth oval. The 2 pack just fills the voides. It is not to add strength.

So I chamfored the end to give a better look.

This was meant to be a project to write a "How to do" sheet for MIS.

It was not as easy as I hoped.

A bit of clening in acid.

All the edges had dents,dings and burrs. The rear face was bashed over. There was a large burr in the lower shaft holes. It was a slow job getting it toi a semi decent state.

Guess who else did not notice the andle of the head of the shaft.

That made a lot more work.

It is fitted, it is wedged and will not move.

The edge took a nice cutting angle, it will draw blood.

Blood can easily be absorbed by hickory.


Axe shafts are sometimes made from hickory.
This one was.
2 x 80 grit pads to sand the stain out.

customers guy drove a riding mower into a kerb full steam ahead. He was not a popular chap

I applied fire and violence. This was about half way through.

I applied more fire and violence but the photos are much a muchness.

Back on the machine and back to work. Under an hour.

Edit. Customer was actually keen to apply fire and violence to the operator as that cover panel is £400!
