I also did a hammer restoration.

The big issue here, is the head is not fixed to the shaft.

The shaft is in good order, just dirty. But I had to cut the top off to allow me to fit the head securly.

Finished.
The faces on the head was polished. I have a need to use it on brass or alloy pins.

This boxed up Silvert Blow torch came my way the other day.

In the box it came in, there was the pricker, brass filling funnel and a spare set of seals.

This is a nice unit.
Despite datinmg from the 1960's, parts are still available.
So I de-commisioned it. Fitted a new gas cylinder and re-filled it with modern ABC dry powder.

Turned this German 1953 Shell case into this.

Then this.

The history is differant.

It satrted life as British 3lb shell.
Then in 1970 it was converted into a German Saluting gun blank case.


This tin of Rangoon Gun oil was full. But in the past the lid had seaized. This meant the solder seal was torn out.

So I re-soldered it and not it is oil tight.

This small, but working Stanley Handyman Ratchett screwdriver just needed a clean up and fresh lubicant.

More a tickle than fix. Been doing it over the last week or so. Cleaned surface rust from the base, table & column, fitted a new chuck due to runout with the old one, fitted a longer mains cable, (rubber flex), & popped a bit of oil on the top bearing, to see if it may seep down over time, (sounds a bit rough, but not overly bad).

Did order a replacement belt, but either I've lost the ability to measure a belt, else the replacement is incorrect in size, so it's still running the old belt, currently.

No you have not.
It took them 8 tries to get me a belt of the right size.

What I do is take the old one to a local car spares place and get a 10mm V belt of the shelf.

No. When I pressuer the fuel tank, neat paraffin was ejected from the jet and flooded the pre heating bowl.
Then when the torch wa sin full flow I saw the paraffing boiling.

www.bearing boys , have a handy help measuring section on their site to get the size and often can supply it just by name & drill press model .

That drill press is very similar ( identical ? ) to my old 1989 NU tool press.

Bearing boys supplied me with a new belt two years ago , I've cleaned the top cover off on the inside & written the part number in the cover so I have an idea of the part number next time round .
Done the same on all equipment for all other belts & driving tyres etc.

Just popping out to the mancupboard for it.

I got this lamp maily as a teachig aid for MIS.
To educate on how to polish brass and set the burners up and fix the burners.

This is a new members wonky moment.

Oh well, I have spares wicks.

Waiting on new glass parts.

The left hand size one is new ish, from the 1970's the right hand hone is about 1890. The differance in the brass is clear.

This cloth tape measure is a little bit of history.
The makers name is Wilkinson and Sons.
Yes the Razor blade brand.
But this a is a tape measure to measure the leg of a sword bearers leg. So a sword can be made to match him/her/them/they.

Again this was purchased as a training aid.

During the clean up a WD Arrow, a date of 1915 and stock number was found.

A Royal flying Core Irish linnen tool. I am led to understand on the clothe coated planes of that time. This was in the Aire frame mechanic tool box.

So I cleaned it up and stepped the handle in Lavender and linseed oil.

So as a de rusting aid I set to work on thsi Stanly D90 plane.

This was going to show how to use grinding paste and meths on a glass plate to remove rust and keep the surfcae true.

But when we had cleaned it up, the blade has never had a cutting angle put on it.
It looks like it was never used.

So we put a new edge on it. It took an edge very well.

I got this case weeks ago.

Took a while to get it open, with out damage.

It didn't work.
But at another MIS they have a clock restorer. Who for swop of some old clocks fixed it for me.

I ordered a 710mm, (internal), from Simply Bearings, & it's the correct belt they have listed, which they've sent, but I'm measuring that as being approx. 750mm, internal, not 710mm.

Worked on a few W800's, interesting design on the engine.

They used a bevelled gear vertical shaft camshaft drive iirc, very leftfield!.

Ah, just like the 1964 Ducati 250 I had, many years ago!

My friend needed my help, it was necessary to weld the ends of the tubes and put the "drops". These are homemade hollow stainless steel needles. The diameter of the tube is 5 and 6 mm, this is part of the installation that fills the cakes with cream. TIG welding, current 15A and filler rod 1 mm. A friend makes custom small devices, like filling bottles with beer and corking bottles in one cycle, for sale to small home breweries. Complicated kinematics, pneumatics, all stainless steel, but he does not know TIG welding.

Quite satisfying really, Wurth Timesert. Expensive outlay for the kit but worth every penny.

Going back to the bathroom sink problem

Going back to my post about the waste pipe from the bathroom sink I was about to try &sort it once again today , discovered that the " plumber had cut two waste pipe holes in the wrong positions.
Middle hole is filled with expanding foam , top hole is where the out of position leaking waste pipe now is.
Not sure if the outer wall waste pipe hole is viable at present.

I'm looking to see if I can core drill a new waste pipe hole right through the wall after screwing on a 3-inch-thick block of hole guide wood on the inside wall over a correctly located holed cardboard template stuck to the wall in the right place on the inside.

Then carefully put a correct sized pilot & core drill through from the inside using the screwed-on block guide plate. pop in all new solvent pipes & new compatible trap, then mortar in all holes inside & outside once it is all connected up, working and not leaking.

No silicone filling that shrinks and opens the cavity for me any more thank you, as he'd also done that on the kitchen sink, dishwasher, bath waste outlet pipes and the through the wall copper t sleeve on the incoming bottled gas pipe as well as using tubes of shrinking silicone on the hob to outside extractor fan pipe work (Another horror story told here in an on some five years ago.)

Once correctly filled inside & outside it made a massive difference to the winter heating oil bill , they must have made a cumulative hole size to the outside of about five inches in diameter.


As I have my disability probs all on my left side and in my spine, this is going to be a difficult and painful exercise to say the least, but I'm going to giver things a go.

Do any of you have any easier sensible solutions or suggestions that I can do myself ?
For after 17 years lots of crap work done by the locals from within a 40 mile radius, for some reason I don't trust these " Local tradesmen " anymore, plus it's very likely to be much cheaper.

I like that insert idea , it looks much better than the old helicoils . I take it that the OD of the insert & insert tapping drill bit are in their own sizes and thread angles
