OMG and WOW, what a light.

I have a couple of those, and an antique one of another make (can't recall right now) that has a tapered glass.
I swear I saw one many years ago that has (4) mantles, but have not seen one since.

Is it me, or have Coleman dual fuel stoves/alanterns etc vanished from US stores? I thought I'd buy a replacement stove, but I haven't found one in the last year and a half of visits.

They are getting harder to locate, the fuel is the issue.

Wasn't aware, just bought new ones on eBay.

For the rears I was thinking I may just take out the two brake carrier bolts and the hub bolt and see if I can lift the full assembly out of the way. That would save a lot of messing about with vag-com.

On my w220 mercs I have cut aftermarket brake guards in half and re welded in Situ. Saves having to buy rear wheel bearing kits and the pain of replacing them.

^ I'd considered doing similar when I discovered what a pain it is to do the rears on my Audi, but haven't got around to it yet. I thought rather than welding I'd perhaps just weld a couple of tags on and use small bolts of some sort, but I think the ones I bought aren't correct anyway so haven't looked at it again.

Replacement foot made. Should keep wife happy. She's only "cooked" three rice cookers so far.

Fixed the seals in my Jerry cans today.

Had a call about a tank agitator we fitted last year.
Bit of a squeak to it.
Disassembled, didnt feel quite right. Fitted a new set of mechanical seals and seems to have cured it.

Lots of fun today. This is not just my work, but mine and few MIS people.

Plus a dog.

This rusty tool is stamped up with GPO.

So we set to work.

The leather was washed, saddle soap applied and then leather feed.

Then as we slowly removed some rust and crud, this showed up.

Nice tool for a simple restoration.
No power tools were used.

Well, as it shows in the images above.

This is an Eclipse 45 tool.

That and rust.

Simple Dremel polishing tools had the handle cleaned up.

De rusting the tin, led to a discussion over coffee and Hob Nobs.

I sat and listened, as they all spoke about other de-rusting methods at the sheds, two careers were getting a bit nervous. As it was getting a bit shouty.

I pointed out that there ways they wanted to try all had good points and bad points. Out came the smart phones.


I mixed up, citric acid, flour and white vinegar.


We used that way.

The blades were boiled in Citric acid, cleaned with wire wool and warm wax applied.

The box was washed in Meths. Then 0000 wire wool soaked in bee's wax was used to polish the metal.

The above De-rusting debate led to a simple question.

What is the best way to kill rust?

We agreed the simple way was to try out different methods, but we needed a tool or something that was covered in equal amount of rust.

Just like this.



The methods.
Citric acid.
Over the counter Rust killer.
Power tools.
Wet n Dry, Scotchbrite and wire wool. This lot was used to finish off.

Not bad.

All done.

This one I will take no credit for.
All I did was listen, advise and point out a different way.
This is the lady first try at this, she has many issues.
The worse. She drinks DE caff fruit TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a joke between us.

Tired Square, rusty blade, loss of the blue and the wood was dry.

Rust removed, brass cleaned and the wood given a good going over.

I wish this could show the shine on the wood, the metal and the lady.

So fr we had did rust removal, wood cleaning and drank coffee.

Paint was next.

This was to show that the old ways are still useful today.

That little clip, I will not say what it was called, family based forum and that, by the MIS members.

I knew it was there.

Hot caustic had the paint off.
Plus this stove brought back memories.

All done.

This was done by a MIS Member who comes to my play pen when he can, with his health issues.

Today was tonic water and hand tools.

No new bits, now power tools, something new to try and something to make him concentrate.

The shaft was removed, sanded and given 5 coats of wood stain.

This was my mix of citric acid, flour and white vinegar. This time applied hot, makes no difference, just is more fun.

The new to him.
Resin filling. We did make a new wedge, on safety grounds.

Black wax applied.

The edge was sorted with this.
