next thing workshop related is the need for more offroad parking. there's only one place left...

this took hours, the absolute gits that put this wall up used 6" block. who does that?!

another long overdue job was to get power out the front. if id had any sense when i was building up the place originally i would have put water out here too.. however that's not happening now, so just power it is.

and im powering it off a fused spur, so i can switch it off when not in use.

this is going to take a while.

8 bags a week....

i probably wont bother actually bagging the rest, i just needed a idea of the volume i could get in 8 bags. it takes longer to fill the bags than to shovel the soil...

Had a lovely Yamaha RD350 VPVS in.

Full restoration but none runner unfortunately.

My daughter learning the ropes with the carbs, she enjoys fixing stuff like her dad!.

There was a fair few problems that all mounted up to a none runner, mainly pulse coil air gap and then float heights..

Went for a ride yesterday, forgot how nice these were!, a lot more refined than the 350lc!.

I went in to check oil pump stroke ans found the oil tank line kinked and folded over, that could have seen his freshly rebuilt engine off in no time!, a GSXR1100 carb slide spring has saved the day there..

Finally I got the silencer off of my twist-and-go.
However, it was a bit manky.

I found a 1.5mm piece of scrap, roughly shaped to fit, and did a superb job of welding it to the rusty, perforated bracket.

Now for a good coat of VHT after its soak in phosphoric overnight. A good excuse to fire up the barby tomorrow to get it dry and nice and warm.

Is that VHT 18SWG or 22? Might need 2 coats

That long hair - keep it inside the jacket, tied back somehow. I've never seen in real life the horrendous effects of long hair being caught in rotating tools that we were shown films of in the first weeks of our engineering course many years ago, but I have heard it once from a distance. She might not be using rotating tools now, but get into good habits early so they stick.

We do that at home when she uses our M12 drills and grinders etc.

Also she knows to be careful around car engines when they are running (getting a fleece cuff pulled into the belts etc as well as her hair).

Definitely worth mentioning though.

I fixed this Ingersol rand vacuum pump yesterday, the repair kit was expensive, ~£250, but was a lot cheaper than the quote I got from Scientific Products to do the repair, they quoted £6000! A lot of money either way for a few o rings.

I crawled under the Surf last night and replaced the iffy front rollbar drop links, it took about 45 minutes. I put these on about two years ago.
The rubber had perished on the two cushions six months after I fitted them though. It got picked up on the MOT last week so I thought I'd sort them out.
Roughtrax kindly sent some more FOC in the post and they've just sat there for 18 months

Have a GSXR 125 in foe none starter.

50 psi compression, leakdown test showed air letting past exhaust valves. Valve clearances in spec.

Me and the workshop manager pulled the valves out this afternoon and they look rust on the seats?, water damaged.

Really odd fault for a bike in daily use?.

Seeing your young lady their getting her hands dirty and keen to learn gives me hope that not all is lost in the mad world we currently live in.

We're all quick to knock the younger generation and state that none of them want to do a days graft or get dirty, but your daughter is proof that there's plenty out there that are willing to learn and get involved if someone is willing to teach them. It's the teaching bit that is often missing unfortunately.

She has been a massive help at home while we have been working on the cars and she's asked for a while if she could come into work with me.

As you say you should have all the time in the world to teach your children, I see people just chucking money at their kids with no real quality time together and it never ends well..

I have treated my son and daughter exactly the same, they both have got stuck in because they enjoy it and we have fun fixing things.

I do wonder if I have lead them down the wrong path as fixing vehicles can be a thankless task at times but my son is still enjoying working and is 2nd year apprentice now.

I didn't have the best childhood so made sure my two feel they can join in and the their dad will always have time for them.

Fixed a turd of a Sealey battery charger belonging to my daughter earlier - not been working for a while - the cheapo Sealey lot can't even buy a transformer with a tin clamp to bolt it down. Okay, it must have taken a fall at some point, but a decent transformer and it would have survived..
