Spent a little more time today on the Fobco pillar drill and when taking the cover plate off to check the wiring, I was pleasantly surprised find several papers folded up and stowed inside; including a wiring schematic for the AEG motors on the Fobco Universal, 7 Eight, and 10 Eight machines. Here is a photo of it for anyone who has one of these pillar drill's or may be interested.

oh and, also, DUCT TAPE is definitely not acceptable loom wrapping material!

The " Gentleman "( for want a better word ) who was the P/O of my bungalow managed an excellent job of using twisted 2.5 T&E and sellotape to extend his only three single power points in the bungalow to bring it up to eight single sockets

His insertion of 16 x 50 watt halogen lights in the ceilings was smashing .. once he'd cut through several roof trusses to get them dead center patterns in the rooms and hallway etc.

We only found that out after we'd been in here 12 hrs or so and had all the lights on when we smelt charring wood & a funny melting plastic aroma.

Quality job!

I did a rewire years ago and some of the old sockets were wired in bell wire poked down the gaps in the floor boards!

Nothing big in the grand scheme of things but these secateurs go everywhere, they are nothing special but who designs gardening stuff to be camouflaged, every time you drop them they disappear !!

A bit of yellow heat shrink should help!

Replacing gears in my milling head.
Motor has been running a bit too hot as well. Might have to replace it since the brush holders have melted and the brass is out of position.

Slightly different, but I had a colleague who was into hill-walking in a big way. He announced one day he'd bought a new canvas wallet in camouflage colours especially for taking with him. It wasn't until I pointed out the potential that he realised his mistake.....

I was always amused by deer hunting camoflage mandated in some US states - bright high vis orange camo pattern . . had to read up on the non-ability of deer to see colour to understand . .. still amused though

Finally sorted the downpipe out, temporarily had it draining into the sink. I was thinking I'd have to get someone to 3d print me a branch at a funky angle, I didn't know they made 92.5 degree elbows. It seems they don't do 92.5 branches.

I was going to suggest you dip the handles in the fantastic rubberised insulating/marking paint and cover all the handles in a nonslip bright colour but the heat shrink will do for now

When you see some of the cowboy shooters in the US you'll be bloody happy to wear pink red or yellow jackets , they are nearly as bad as the French & Spanish shoot at every thing that moves brigade.

A friend, now deceased used to keep bees in France. She got a hi viz bee suit as apparently a bee keeper got shot & the shooters defence was “I thought it was a deer” & that was considered valid!

Yesterday was a busy day, but found time to restore these nice old tools back to life.
They are part of a digital folder to show MIS how tools can be restored. It contains tips and useful links.

This nice Dovetail back saw was rusty, but the worse was the teeth had been flattened. So the set was all wrong.
The handle had old worm, this will be treated.



So the worm can be treated, the handle had to be removed.




The fixings were threaded, then the screw thread was rivet over. They are a pain to remove.
The worm damaged was treated by 5x 8minutes in a micro wave, then of the shelve liquid treatment.



The teeth were sharpened, then set. I wanted this saw to cut a thin slot. So they are bent to half set.
The blade was cleaned using a wire brush, the handle was cleaned and re-varnished.

This cobblers claw hammer was in a sorry state.



The shaft is so loos I could pull it out, with little effort.
The head was in good condition.



Not sure if this a casting flaw or damaged from use in its long life.

It also left an annoying sharp edge on it.



So I dressed it out and reshaped the head. The claws were dressed. Then tempered.
The finish was bee's wax applied when the head was warm.



That is the original wedge from old shaft. cleaned and reused. To seal the splits and the casting flaw on the claw end a 2 pack glue was used.



Ready to be used.

The blade and cap were jammed, but with a few taps I had them out.
The blade is bent, this was causing the jam. A few deft blows on a anvil had the bend removed.



The metal was cleaned using a scouring pad. The blade was re-ground on a wet stone, then sharpened on a oil stone.
The wood was cleaned with meths, then using a cabinet scraper cleaned up.

The finish is just bee's wax, the wood took it well and buffed up.
This old plane is a joy to use, the old steel took an edge very well.
