I was looking for some 3M Dual Lock circles of 10mm dia. I had a bit of 25mm wide dual lock so today after I finished a welding job I hauled out a bit of steel and turned a wee punch on the lathe.

A friend gave me some spalted beech a while ago and rather than just make a bowl (which I could still do...) I thought I'd have a go at doing something different different with it; it isn't a stool but a small side table for drinks and remote controls, etc. Made the steelwork a while ago and finally got round to painting it; tried Hammerite and a brush a few days ago and made such an **** of it that I ended up just taking it all back off and using Hycote etch primer and matt black spray cans - made a much better job of it.

Or you designe and build a wood oven to dry it out for us all.It would be worth my fuel to hook up the trailer and pay you a visit @8obwaiting the 10 to 15 years while it dries out may be a problem though!

I did think about that, I watched a Canadian chap on YT make one from an old upright freezer and incandescent lamps.......Or you designe and build a wood oven to dry it out for us all.

When I had the Woodmizer sawmill we used to slab everything to 50mm ish, thats good to go in about two years if you keep it under cover. Its about an inch per year so bigger beams do take a long time, that said most guys like to work with green Oak

Wow, they are beautiful
The mill went because it couldnt cut anything bigger 32" diameter, the gear on the trailer was about its limit, the stuff in the lower pictures are typical of the size so we either needed to get a much bigger mill or stop so I got rid of it. If a huge mill turned up for the right money I would get back into it, for the meantime I sell it on.
Some of these bigger boards had to be cut using a chainsaw mill, thats no fun

I've been pratting about with the energy sensor I bought recently and have it somewhere close to useful now. The sensor fits over the flashing LED on the electricity meter, the LED flashes once for each Wh used so a 1000 flashes is 1kWh. This counter is queried via a raspberry pi where I can put the value into a time series database which can then be displayed in a graphing tool. First attempt showed cumulative use, I need to sort out the Y axis as its just using the very growing counter values.
Then I looked at showing what was happening throughout the day, so messed about with the graphing tool for a while and got this. The peak is where I turned on the dishwasher.
The combined them into one dashboard, you can see how the peak lines up with the cumulative graph getting steeper. It will be interesting to see what happens when we charge the EV. I still have a bit of checking to do to make sure the graphs are showing what they should but they are looking promising.
I have some current sensors coming in a couple of weeks that I will clamp onto the main incomer to the consumer unit and another on the live to the workshop. There's also a voltage monitor, these go into a raspberry pi using a daughter board like this so I can compare what is being used to what is being metered plus separate the house power usage from the workshop usage and also add Irms, Vrms, RealP, ApparentP, PFactor.

Years ago I took a spare 'pre-payment' coin meter that I had removed from a bed sit that was in the house when we bought it in 1984, gutted the coin mechanism and put an opto sensor on the disk. Then the buffered and opto-isolated output from this was wired to an interrupt input on a microprocessor development board (years before PCs!) . I wired this meter in series with the boards meter and for many years plotted electricity (and water) usage with this system.
That extra meter was still in place when we sold the house in 2007 and never once was it's presence questioned despite numerous meter readings, electrical condition reports and surveys !
