Having ridden/fettled /built m/c's since 1961 and being in the trade for 25years I find it great to see someone actually " altering " their bike to suit their own requirements . So many of the customers that I had to deal with were either unimaginative or incapable of altering the standard machine or even adjust it to suit their riding. They seem to think that the motorcycling experience begins and ends with the purchase.

I have always been one for altering my bikes, often just for the sake of it. The last CBR600 I had I made loads of stainless fasteners for it on my first lathe, tried to broach a hex in the end of the first two or three but soon gave up and made the heads with two holes and made a wee pin spanner to fit. Also meant there was very little chance of anyone managing to unscrew a panel to nick it

Made the pedal then went for a leisurely toddle round the back roads for a bit, got back home and boiled it as I had run out of gas for the camping stove I have at the workshop. The boss wondered what I was cooking

Must've smelled better than Linklyfe, though.

Repaired the boat club dumper steering wheel.

Original, absolutely f***ed..

Got the assembly from an old Leyland horsebox truck at a scrapyard and cut away the excess structure firstly.


Then took the splined section and put a slot so I could take the dump truck spline and join it.





all mounted up

Another test with melter. Metal was waiting before Id decided what to mold, no time to make a pattern so I used an incomplete lathe toolholder as a challenge.

I have coarse sieved all of my sand, removing plenty of stones, and made up a tapered form for the sprue.

The pour was good. The surface finish is much improved over the last attempts. Dovetails will need milling or filling but there is plenty of extra metal there.

After a quick file - those are surface defects rather than porosity.

Today (well, yesterday) I made a mess. I was busy putting bootlace ferrules on all of the wires from the control panel on the CNC Lathe and here we were, it was almost instantaneous:



No, I did not sort them all, the bin was nearby.

My propensity to OCD coupled with being a tightwad, would have
seen me patiently sitting there and sorting them out, whilst looking
carefully for any I may have missed.

I would have just scooped them up and put them in the box then chosen the colour/size needed from whichever compartment they happened to be in, no need to have them in organised by size compartments

I would do the same, I have just bought a box and if I drop them they will just go back in where ever they go!

then counting up which ones you had, and subtracting them from the 1900 original quantity just to see what you've used............assuming there were 1900 there........obviously you'd have checked that

Made up a little mold for casting aluminum bar billets, internal dims are 59.8mm x 80.8mm long but final piece will be 44mm od x 35mm long so allows for shrinkage and will be used as rollers for diy machine skates from 100*50 channel.

Bolt is flush with inside plate face so if the chunk of ali gets stuck I can remove the bolt then punch it out.



Skate model with a rotating foot on a needle roller thrust bearing version. Overall dims are roughly 100*100*65mm with a max load of 1000kg

It's gonna be a greenhouse. Not finished yet, obviously. Will be cladding it with transparent wriggly perspex, so I still need to add supports where the sheets will overlap. 25mm SHS with 1.5mm wall with 2mm 6013 @ 45 - 55amps. Don't zoom too close on the welds but actually a few of them are quite respectable. It don't easy, as my friend Tiago says, to weld this thin stuff: a delicate balance between hot enough and burning holes.

I'm intrigued. I've a fair bit of 25mm box and had considered a similar greenhouse frame. I've also got stacks of old greenhouse glass. My biggest concern was the box section frame rusting. How are you planning to treat it?

I've sprayed it with cold galv in rattle cans. Actually, I ran out but have another couple of cans on their way. I will clad it with wriggly transparent roofing sheets.
