Today I made the Transtig all QR rectus on the gas. So of fleaday I acquired a rectus 21 panel fitting for 6-8mm pipe

well we know what they say , presumption is the the mother of all F***ups. Now all the welders I've messed with have had the solenoid on the gas inlet , well I took the side panel of and guess what ? ( btw is was very clean inside )

yep the solenoid is on the outlet at the front that was friday night so a bit of head scratching . now luckily for me front and rear gas fittings on this machine are 1/4" male bsp so of to the plumbers merchant this morning for these

1/4" bsp female -female barrels/nipples or what ever you call them then turned to these

and this


I'm gathering quite a selection of fittings now

now all I've got to do is fit the NOS boc shield saver , I'm hoping with all the stop start learning tig I'm going to save a bit of gas

It is preset at 7 lpm but is adjustable when the tamperproof cap is removed off the bottom .

Today.... I made myself extremely annoyed.
Went to replace the rear discs & pads on the OH's Kia Rio - and had a right 'mare.
It's got brake shoes that use the inside of the disc as the drum (handbrake shoes) - and on one side the retaining pin (that has those nightmare spring half-turn retainer thingies) had corroded and sheared - so the shoes twisted and jammed the disc so I couldn't get it off.
Much swearing and struggling later - I got it off - but the lining on the shoes is damaged.... and no shoes and retainers in stock locally either.
The retainers are horrible to refit on the front face especially, cos the Diddy shoes are obstructed by the wheel bearings & wheel stud assembly.
AARGH! I could have cheerfully torched the damned thing

so the shoes twisted and jammed the disc so I couldn't get it off.

A friend's Shogun did similar but there are two threaded holes in the disc bell that take M8 bolts and you can push the disc off with them, really considerate of them.

They are good for disposing of scrap tyres since the tip started charging, but wouldnt let them touch a car again!

@GRW what year? We are having scrappy collect our 2008 tomorrow morning. It is good condition apart from an electrical issue on the ECU/immobiliser.

Ours is a 2011 (probably the same model as its the last of the MkII's I believe, as its replacement came out in the same year). It's not a bad wee car really, and it's only got 58k on it, so we're hoping to have it on the road for a good few years yet.

I made an adapter plate to mount a new single phase motor in my new old Viceroy polisher and also made plate to mount a new switch. Just need the new pulley to turn up and I’ll be good to go.

Always wanted a Vitesse but never got , weren't they the fastest four door production saloon for a short while ! .are you restoring it ? , was a pretty strong motor the 2600 . nice sound to a straight 6 .

I bought all new front end panels put on it 4 years ago but it’s probably not worth the time it’ll take to do so I’m debating whether or not I just break it. The 2600 makes for a lovely tow car but I’d much rather put the time into doing a Mini.

The straight six engines suffered badly from cracked cylinder heads , done quite a few of them years ago

I have failed.....

Confession time. I finished the splitter and went to test it with a bit of properly season wood, using both my drill and impact driver as the motive power. Got about 1.5" in and the jack buckled where I've shown in red in the following pic.

Wedge then turned sideways a good bit and looking at it, the jack isn't up to the job and I'm just going to 'rescue' the bits of pipe and scrap the rest. Not going to attempt any 'rebuild'/redesign. Cost me only the MIG wire, gas and time so no great loss. A bit disappointed to be honest, but Hey...Ho​

Exactly where a couple of scissors jacks I've had have gone - I trust them rather less than how far I can kick them in bare feet on a very cold day.
