Very neat!
Cheers.
Very neat!
Superb job, better than a commercial oneFinished my lead screw today. Made a bearing pre load nut and a tab and keyway slot in my new longer lead screw.
Ready to fit back to the knee in my mill.
I was going to use the old but, but it goes on at about 30°. The bearings will have been loaded and unloaded on each revolution.View attachment 368749View attachment 368750
Thank you. I was apprehensive about doing it, but I thought for £20 for the steel, it's no great loss if I mess it up. I'm very pleased with the way it's turned out and I've learned a lot along the way.Superb job, better than a commercial one
Plenty of tacks not needed as much on 3mm but on 2 and below one plate has the tendancy to pull away from the other
I often do it for customers when I install handrails, siting I needed the room to set posts or whatever!^^ If I was the owner, I'd trim back that living trip hazard in the last pic.
Some new nylon rollers for the truck bed ,the old ones were past best.

Made a trapezoid thread, TR24 x 3mm pitch for the knee on my mill.
It needed to be 130mm longer due to the column extension.
I ground a cutting tool to suit from hss.
Very small cuts like 3 thou. Plunged in, no compound slide.
Better fit on the nut than the original.
I soon realised that I needed the follower rest, even with light cuts. Just the other end to machine down and keyway to cut.View attachment 368388View attachment 368389View attachment 368390View attachment 368391
Very pleased!
Thanks. Yes it's a DB10. I have just finished converting it to 2hp 3 phase with vfd. It does all I need. I like it but I'm no expert. The mill lead screw is my most ambitious project up to now!Very very nicely done on a little Chester lathe, DB10 by any chance?
A good many people denigrate these smaller Chinese machines but I personally have had good luck with them. I bought my son a DB7 one time when Chester were having one of their "open days" and because we had to put it together ourselves (ie on it's stand) we got it at half price. I subsequently made a small sterling engine cylinder on it and it came out just perfect, the walls are 30 thou thick and that for some length. I was really impressed.
You know the rules, pictures required! (Even if it wasnt today)I subsequently made a small sterling engine cylinder on it and it came out just perfect, the walls are 30 thou thick and that for some length.
