From the colour, looked like you've lost a few teethTonight I'm making a dent in the homemade sloe vodka. All the better for being drunk out of the homemade glass!

I had an attempt at helical milling with @Onoff 's printed jig.View attachment 389407View attachment 389408View attachment 389409
It works! Three 1mm deep cuts.
Difficult to feed smoothely and can see it in the finish.
More chuffing railings…

Are those white things in the glass fallen out teeth , caused by drinking it ? ?Tonight I'm making a dent in the homemade sloe vodka. All the better for being drunk out of the homemade glass!

Damn, wish I'd though of that. Not as a lamp base just as a 'thing'!Ditto this big dice.
It's a base for a table lamp.
I still need to rub the lotion on it's skin
Would a four or six flute cutter make any difference to the finish of the helical? As per the pm I think they're "chatter" marks. Basically the irregularities and imperfections of the print being faithfully transferred and "copied" by the cutter. I'm oddly pleased it copies so accurately!
I used silicone grease on one of the assemblies to smooth the action.
Are you cutting that dry? I reckon some cutting lubricant would help.
Put a tiny battery operated gyroscope inside , operated by a mercury tilt or piezo switch with counter & trigger switch so when you tilt it or tap a set rhythm on it in a certain way you'll always get a six face on top .Damn, wish I'd though of that. Not as a lamp base just as a 'thing'!

Thanks Ill get a propaneI wouldn't use mapp gas to do soft soldering, its too hot & its very easy to overheat the fittings & boil the solder & flux. You are better to use straight propane (black or red cylinders), they don't burn as hot & are much safer.
Its not that much hotter, just use a smaller flame. However propane is cheaper, and butane/propane mixes far cheaper if thats all the heat you need.I wouldn't use mapp gas to do soft soldering, its too hot & its very easy to overheat the fittings & boil the solder & flux. As you get older & your hands aren't as clever as they used to be and you don't like bending your back to use the chuck keys etc . Now is the time to make two chuck keys , 400 mm long with half inch sleeves of aluminum epoxied on the handles to make them 16 mm in dia & 250 mm from tip to tip .Needed a chuck key. After setting the dividing head, thought I might as well make spares.
