What are they?
Looks like fly tipping to me ...Shhhh they're "modern art".....

Bingo. From this page, I thought I'd give it a go as a quick and dirty rig-up and if it works well, build a better one.Antenna i reckon, for the wireless.

The handy thing about this is it's designed to give its best with the top element 6m from the ground, so no awkward high poles.

I've got various verticals and runs of wire, all of which do their job reasonably well, but I need something with a bit more directional punch without going daft with a linear. From where I site this I'll have a decent shot to the east and west, a fairly good view the north, and a fairly dense treeline to the south, but I'm not too bothered about that. For local activity, the verticals work fine and for DX into Europe and the US (if the band ever opens up) this should work well.I have no real room even for something like that. But a simple longwire in the roof of the shed and i can get most of the hf amateur bands clear enough.

As I just used what materials were to hand, it's a bit on the heavy side, but after a proving stage, I'll assemble a much lighter dual or triple element array.
This is all 11m stuff, btw.
Yeah, I fancied one back then, and I've seen the odd one on ebag from time to time. They vary a lot in price, and if one comes up at the right time (midweek end auction) they can go reasonably cheaply. Not for peanuts though.Hey Dave, whatever happened to Lowe radios that were made in Matlock UK ? I always fancied a hf-150, from when they came out, but i could not afford one back then. Might see if i can find one at a reasonable price now for giggles.
Cool, now you've explained what it's for I can see it. One of my uncles (sadly no longer with us) was really into his amateur radio, at one point he had a load of ex-telephone exchange batteries powering his kit, he was always messing about with electronics and fixing stuff or modifying it. I was only a kid but I remember him buying ex-army stuff to modify and using a Commodore C64 to decode something or other that he was picking up.Bingo. Went past a few weeks ago....building still there but its something else...My eldest lad was into radio.....we bought a scanner from there many years ago.........I recall telling my boss about this scanner and that it could pick up Police and mobile phones.....he was intrigued and asked me to bring it in to work so he could have a go....we were in his office and picked up a mobile phone that just happened to be one of our Reps slagging him off............a while later the phones changed to digital and killed itHey Dave, whatever happened to Lowe radios that were made in Matlock UK ?
