If it was my money or a vice I was going to keep it would be bare metal finished in black oxide and linseed oil applied hot.
Plus the screws holes would be TIG filled.

But the inserts are a "Lets see how they handle"
The side was pure experimental, we have to see how it handles in real life.

It has cost me time and enjoyment, Plus I hope some here can have a insight what can be done with out a full workshop.

There is another twist I did not think about.
If people see screws. nut or bolts holding something together they will think it is a strong repair.

Mind over matter.

the one door needed repairing urgently



that got done however rest of the doors are no good to repair and that one was to far gone to do anything good with it
a year later its still the same both his son and I have had a go at him about the building and yard state

he wants a cheap build of the stable doors ive said do it once and do it right in the first place so refused to build any of them there after

right then these doors now have a fascia make over temporary as its all i would do to them



the doors are too big for an 8x4 sheet as those boards are 8 x 2 boards however cut into 2 and then an old version of strip in the center of the door completes the door
colour scheme of the sign is black writing and red writing on a white board

the doors are going to be black the beam wood is going to be red and the center door strips is going to be red as well leaving the door sides just left to do

i paint these tomorrow if dry weather

leaving the last door to do as owner needs access to the property

Very first go with the cnc plasma today (Sunday) didn’t go as planned but it’s a step in the right direction. Doubleboost John is being very helpful behind the scenes

Made a new pulley from aluminum for my planer/thicknesser because it was a pretty loose fit on the shaft and made a helluva racket.

I copied the old pulley without the claw-coupling feature. The belt could fit better but I had a HSS profile already that fit what the old pulley had almost perfectly so I was lazy and just copied the old style than bothering making a new better fitting pulley, it has worked well for years.

Like you, I have seen 23 with that part of the fixed jaw broken as you say it does not take much to fix. I went over board as I had time and wanted to experiment.

I also have a 23 with similar damage on the moving jaw. Seems to be a common fault.

Made this a while back so I could use my sim wheel in the lounge.
Ended up taken apart as it took up too much space.

Solution. Piano hinges.

Will remake from timber when time permits.

My magneto lamp project marches ahead...

Got it in etch primer and the logo with three coats of enamel. Also made a blanking plate to cover the screw holes and to neaten the joint between the switch and the main casting. I’m quite enjoying this little build.

all doors used to be horrible landrover green he wanted to use again i said no paint it same colours as your new sign the red is brighter than the sign though

its getting him to paint the 4 poster from mustard to the same colours as the doors just to brighten the yard as well

oh and its not bullying its the truth garage doors looked crap end of how they used to look

Model making bench for man cave , all recycled timber, beech , ash , mahogany and marine ply and holly , not long enough for joints toget bench height so all joined with 150 mm coach screws, 1200 mm long x 500 wide 830 mm high, next is a moxon type vise for it, oiled up with osmo oil, long term plan is for scale model of clinker built 27 ft whaler

Not today, but recently I turned a new handle for this massive cleaver I bought earlier in the year. It’s made by Cornelius Whitehouse of Cannock and it’s very heavy and very good at cutting through meat (and also pizza!)

It's not built yet, the plan is to build a moxon style vise with usable jaws of different sizes on 3 sides, it will only be used for small piece of wood, most of the preparation and conversion will be done in my main workshop, the mancave will be for the "clean" parts of the build, parts for the vice will be ordered from accushop in the form of trapezoidal threaded rod and nuts with cast iron hand wheels , I need to set up my ancient metal lathe to get on with this, the vice will be clamped to the front apron as needed, well that's the plan anyway, 99% of what I do is dictated by materials to hand and the method used to rectify my mistakes, Ihave a 1914 "instantaneous" vice made by Entwisle and Kenyon aka Steelrack as the vice on my main bench, it's on the left on the main pics, will update as I go ,

Ah very nice! I've got an old Parkinsons one with a buttress thread - loads of racking with the square sliders, a terrible design really but that's evolution... I've got two 1950s vices recently restored, a Record 52 and a 53A I'm hoping to build a bench around.

Get yourself on Trademe and buy some stuff, have it shipped to them and pick it up when you're here There's loads of old gear floating around the country
