Had anyone got a good guide to re handling tools like hammers, I never seem to get it right and they come loose after a while.

One tip is to make sure your handles are bone dry before fitting.
If you buy a handle from a market trader chances are it would have been rained on, then packed away wet and stored in a plastic box till the next market/bootfair where it may get rained on again.
You come along and buy one, fit it to your hammer head where it slowly dries out and becomes loose.

Today I got a hand to lift a 2500mm x 1250mm x 10mm sheet of Aluminium onto the plasma.

I then cut out two polo mints.

Then joined them with a bit of 4 inch tube, it could almost be a rear axle for Fred Flintstones Hotrod.

I made my little bucket BBQ better by drilling a ring of holes around the base. My advice to anyone making the same is drill the holes before you light the charcoal.

Today, I almost made a parting off tool to fit the holder(s) of my Quick Change Toolpost on the lathe.

Take one of these [now redundant since I bought the big Rage Evo chop saw].....

Carriage locked, very slow manual feed with cutting fluid and backing off every so often, gets you to this....

Until you get 'braggy', then the brazed tip parts company [presumably due to heat build-up?] and you get this......

Oh, well, lesson learned - and there are plenty of teeth left on the saw blade.......

What you need is an engine hoist....?

No room, there is only about 500mm between the plasma and the side of the steel container.
One day I may get round to welding an RSJ along the length of the container and fitting an electric hoist on rollers.

I have the same problem Dan, I usually resort to welding a lump of pipe to the head .

I have the same problem Dan, I usually resort to welding a lump of pipe to the head .

I've done that a couple of times unfortunately the metal pipe is very good at transmitting the vibration from the hit to your hand which isn't good. The other thing you have got to watch is the weld can fail, it usually starts to crack after a few years of abuse.

Indeed it is. I do have a parting tool, but it was one of those "I wonder if....." moments.

Besides, the Scot in me hates to see good carbide tips go to waste.

I saved some cash and made my own roll cab, will have some doors added then powder coated black

I replaced the bearings in my Drummond's layshaft and made it a new layshaft spindle.

The holes for the grub screws don't line up because the pulley has been changed at some time.
It is a little tight so I will have to ream out the oilite bearings a fraction.

A work in progress, imagine it with a pretty coloured pot plant in the 'seat'. I might fix a support for the pot underneath yet. The bottom shoes have to be ground so it sits level/balanced. Thanks to @The_Yellow_Ardvark for the idea in a thread a while back .

Slight rethink en route to finishing it [that's the best bit of making it up as you go along ], all done now. Base added, painted and felt to the underside to protect surfaces
