You can get nesting software and I think BobCAD has a module for nesting, I don't have that though, I just deconstruct my model and then place all the parts manually in a Solidworks assembly.
Some pics of the 3D model I did for it then the last pic is the parts placed ready for importing into BobCAD to choose the toolpaths.
As said I then import to BobCAD.
I then extract edges in two layers.
First is internal cuts.
Then external cuts.
Doing that means it is quicker to draw the toolpaths as I can simply hide a layer and drag around what is left and that is the toolpaths done. I then hide that layer and view the next and choose the toolpaths for that and then tell it to compute the toolpaths (once I have set feeds, dwells etc)
I then do a simulation and if all looks fine I tell it to produce the code.

Been working on altering a shooting table, it is going on the Cheetah Cat I am currently working on but it has previously been on the skippers 2 previous boats and altered each time. In fact the last boat it was on it had been altered at least twice due to different set ups on the boat. It must have had about 5 rolls of wire pumped into it over the years. It will be getting altered again in a few weeks The Cat currently has 135HP Honda outboards on it but the licence would be about £70K so they are being replaced by 40HP Selva engines which are really 115HP Yamahas supposedly de-rated to 40HP 
That means I need to make the hinged section at the rear longer to clear the Hondas and then once the Selvas arrive it will be chopped off again
After that long story I forgot to take pics but I did make a start to the Davit, progress is below in the pic.
Where the web and the hauler plate meet there was a 10mm gap so I just put a piece of 12mm round in and welded over the top of it.

So yesterday I made a flat bit of wood which will be our new desktop. The side that has become the top wasn't to bad, the bottom took a decent bit of work with the plane then the belt sander. The front has a nice slope to it which should be quite comfy for sitting working at.
Sanded and started oiling (danish oil), moved it into the house so I could work on the base without covering this in grinding dust. The oil has brought out the colours nicely. It's white oak. (please excuse the plastic on the sofa, having a problem with a cat being a terror if we go away for the night)
And finished the base today, well, it needs one more coat of paint but it's pretty much done. (and also please excuse the nightmare of a workshop, plan is to build a smallish extension to take a lot of the clutter and free up space for making more mess!)

Got the roller bracket welded up and cut out a bracket on the plasma and welded that to the davit so that it can bolt to the original mounting point on the boat.
Got it round to the boat and fitted.
While the skipper was fitting the hauler I was able to measure up and think of how I am going to raise the gunwale and also measure up for the rear section of the table. The table will be tomorrows job if the weather is kind to me.

I made a clearfell site that was 4`deep in brash flat today ready for replanting
That's just a puzzle to be solved, Possibly it's still not optimal but this saves you some material...

Yes, likely it could be done better but basically the way I work is I have a certain amount of parts and need to get them out of a certain amount of material. I do it as quick as I can as my time is money and the material has been paid for. If I spend an hour or two trying to optimise things then it may end up costing more for the skipper.
There was a classic example of that when a good friend who is a retired carpenter was nagging me about the waste of stainless when I was doing a dozen of a part. I said Aye ok, you work out how to do it better and let me know, after 2 hrs he had it all worked out so that he saved me about £20 worth of stainless, my time is more than £10/hr so it wasn't much of a saving

I would be round "helping" as much as you could handle! I've got a decent bit of sycamore that I need to mill, my 18" saw isn't up to it, unless I could find a ripping chain. There's a bloke up by Huntly who can probably do it for me for some beer tokens though.

Did you do this mod on an ML7 lathe? If you see my other post I want to use my 4 way tool post but the largest size tooling it will accommodate without going above centre height is only 7mm!

I have about 8.5mm thickness on my base & to fit 12mm tooling I would need to machine off 5mm, I think 3.5mm of steel would not give enough support to the tool! You don't happen to remember how much metal you had left after machining?

Yes, it should fit in the 4 jaw chuk and you just face it was quite thin but didn't cause any problems.
