Found a base off a Wolf valve grinder in the scrapyard for £2 I think it will be ok for a tool cutter grinder. The XY slides only have about 5" movement each way . The column is made from unistrut That was originally guides for a roller shut door that a neighbour was replacing.
, it is fully universal swivelling in all directions, I was originally going to use a double column but a single is very ridged. I don't know what the grinding head will be I might use a small bench grinder. Unistrut will be fixed onto the XY tables to use as T slot and for mounting fixtures.

Yes, likely it could be done better but basically the way I work is I have a certain amount of parts and need to get them out of a certain amount of material. I do it as quick as I can as my time is money and the material has been paid for. If I spend an hour or two trying to optimise things then it may end up costing more for the skipper.
There was a classic example of that when a good friend who is a retired carpenter was nagging me about the waste of stainless when I was doing a dozen of a part. I said Aye ok, you work out how to do it better and let me know, after 2 hrs he had it all worked out so that he saved me about £20 worth of stainless, my time is more than £10/hr so it wasn't much of a saving

Today, I made an RFI shield for the 4G modem. It works, too...

Roof I built this week was spot on mind. Took the time to draw in sketchup, makes tallying up a lot easier.

Not today but over the last few days. Some more playground equipment bits.
These are the adapting bosses from the bearing to the top of the 'deck' some fiddling with the rotator and mig and results are quite good. Welded at average amps 320.

There was ten in total to do, so fiddles the first and the rest were like this.

No fiddling required, I'm quite happy with the results

Then there was the bearing mounts / stand.

Had ten of these to do as well. Ended up with a moderate case of sunburn due to reflection and also through my work shirt. Used a 15kg roll of 1.2mm solid wire for this

Not strictly ‘made’ but today I tig’ed a pair of indicator plinths into an MG Midget. This is my first proper attempt fusion welding but I’m reasonably happy with how they’ve turned out.
Now I need to planish them out and do some work with the body file.

Totally understand the time is money thinking, we try and get boat owners to let us run extra cables when it's a "pull half the boat apart" job when we do installs, especially between the binnacle and chart table as it'll mean a much cheaper job later on when they decide to add more kit (which they usually do) I'm sure they think we're just trying to bump up their bill when what we are actually trying to do is future-proof their boat.

It happened first thing, well about 10am anyway and I finished at 7pm. Wrapped it in a bit of rag to stop me leaving a trail of blood until it sealed over.
