We can't always be a star like Matt Michelangelo or a sculptor but we can do our best we always must do our best even if you're digging the drain dig a beautiful drain that's what I used to sell my son's I don't give a s*** if you're a doctor or an astrophysicist or a drain digger just make sure if you are a drain digger to make the drain perfect

Those are wise words to live your life by s hearn, my dad said 'don't care what job you do as long as you learn something every day'. I dug a few nice (almost perfect in my eyes) drain trenches in my yoof, foreman had other ideas to do with profit, I moved onward and upwards!

I had a little play in the garage, first thing I’ve done on the hot rod for a while. Simple bracket made, lightening holes added, and I bored out an old alloy clamp to hold the Landy steering volume. Still working on my ’steampunk’ look.

Those fancy little screws are Roll Royce engine fasteners.

The rate I’m going, should be finished by 2030.....

in Men In Shed we have a series of wooden planes.
Myself and others spent a lot of time in restoring them to a usable condition.
But.
I have had to spend more time in repairing them as members uses metal hammers to adjust them.

So.



Three bits of hard wood from a scrap Pallet.
Glued and dowled.
I made a 1 in 7 and a 1 in 6 angle guide to give me the head angles.
Also can be used as a Dovetail Joint guide.



Old curtain rail cut to length and wedged into the head. The larger turned wood is Holly.
Turning the handle meant I had to repair the MIS lathe tools, again. It has a few seasoning shanks in it. But nothing serious.



Steeping in Linseed oil, this adds more weight and helps preserves it.



Finished
Now to print off and laminate instructions on how to adjust wooden planes.

Same with me, the fun is in building the car, bike, stuff, rather than using the end product.

A friend of mine got quite involved with his men in sheds group, based in a large town in Bucks, they had a fair bit of kit, and a good number of members.
Being a very keen hobby woodworker and recently retired he joind to get out of the house from time to time.
After a while he ended up being responsible for keeping the gear in good condition, safe etc. He ended up spending all his time doing that and not enjoying his time there anymore so knocked it on the head totally.

Anyway, finished this off earlier;
Made the rose a couple of weeks ago, left it to go green a little bit. Turned the base earlier, from some yellow mahogany offcuts I have had for years. Bit of black spray, a burnish... and we have an aged looking base.
Glass dome from an old clock that went to the tip.

Hi PC, What Alfa is that for?

By coincidence today I made a front jacking point for an Alfa 75.
Maybe not that much of a coincidence as I seem to be making something for it most days.

Surprising how much work goes into something like this



Started off by making a 25 x 16mm box out of 19mm box by cutting and shortening / extending the sides before cutting it to shape.



Next make the bottom out of the same 19mm box



Then make the rest of the sides out of 2mm plate form the scrap bin



Then blast it before welding it all up



Finally a quick tidy up before another quick blast again and paint the inside with galvafroid.

Not sure what alfa it is. Its for a friend who looks after a large collection of them. Your jacking point worked out ok. I recon by the state of the old one you've got a fair amount to do around it before you weld it on.

Believe it or not, the bit of floor stuck to the jacking point in the first picture is all it needs, I should have it welded in shortly.
Inner sill and all is pretty good and I already repaired the outer sill.
Notice the pressing on the outer sill, it doesn't line up with the jacking point but both sides were the same so I think correct. (Don't know that that's about)

This was the best jacking point on the car and I should have done it first so I had a good pattern to work from. (I'll know for the next time)

The back ones are different and were so far gone that I had nothing to go on and spent more time in the internet trying to get a good photo of what it should look like than actually fabricating and installing them. (and they needed sill, inner sill, floor etc. etc.)
