Yes, I know, wood.
But the 2 shown here are hopefully, will end up fall size, in wood or metal.

I am involved in "Men In Sheds" 2 of our members have dementia and find reading plans and the written word very difficult.. But I found out if you tell them what length and angle you want the material cut they can do that. One gentleman worked in GWR in Swindon.

So I made these 2 small scale garden bench and seat to allow them, with help. To make their own full scale.
Or same size as a plant holder.

Coffee and casting repair is the order of the day today.
Nice clean gearbox casing from a classic formula 1 car. (It's a converted Teaction Avant box with uprated internals) The chap who brings me them is a gem and cleans them up lovely prior to dropping them in, just a little tidying up of the threads to do as they tend to always contain a bit of oil residue even after vapour blasting and a cook in the oven.

It's got some blind threaded holes in the sump flange that take studs, but someone had unfortunately wound the studs in with a big dollop of silicone RTV and it had hydraulically locked and blown out the side of two of the bosses before they realised their mistake.

Anyway, quick dress up with a wire brush, bung in the oven to pre-heat for half an hour while I drag a tig set to the front of the shop (and fix a torch, I always have a torch to fix whenever I want to use a set myself).

Set hooked up, ready to rock, find gloves, find glasses, check gas...

Now the back of this hole is sealed, the non shielded side is a bit crusty, so best just to drill and countersink the hole, flip the casting over and fill from the other side.

Then plug up with a good slug of weld.

Out of sequence, but you can just see the nastiness in the bottom of the hole before drilling it out.

Could've buried it but it's easier to countersink then fill as you are guaranteed a good weld right to the bottom of the hole.

Ive been making some new LED bulb holders for some classic smiths gauges, nothing complicated but a thanks to @Hood as in this thread he was talking about how nice acetal/delrin was to machine

before that thread I would have used nylon, but now I wish I'd been using acetal/delrin years ago as it is so much nicer to work with.

on the left are new holders that need to be glued into the rev counter and speedometer, the 6 led's on the right slide into them and the 52mm fuel/temperature guages. I know you can but replacment ones off the shelf, but I like using 8mm 0.5W straw hat LED's as they have a very wide angle compared to normal LED's

and whilst I've been working on this for a while (why do the easy jobs take up so much time) but Ive been modifying the switchgear on the dashboard for my Triumph Herald, the standard one looks like this

but I ended up using triumph TR5/TR6 knobs as it allows me to use rotary knobs, so I can have more functionality, and still having it look like it could have left the factory that way.

the chrome surrounds for hazard switch, wiper switch and contact for the immobilizer are all modified from the the switch in the middle, just so they look uniform.

I do need to get back to doing some proper work on this car now though

Well I did'nt make anything today ,but after what seems a long winter...I did get out with the rotivator and turn over the plots that I'm gonna grow veg on this year ... great to get out and feel the sun .....jeff

Not today, but yesterday at Men in shed.

Bert's Dementia was not as bad has I have seen him with it.
He arrived with a load of wood, all old decking.

This is what we made, limited by the wood and what he wanted.



The colour was meant to be "Cedar Red" But I see it as "ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
But Bert loves it.

Had a not so good day today with constant phone ringing and people wanting stupid things...after studying my engine bay and the amount of curves there are within the inner wings...I am going about it a different way....this panel is a mock up but will look at lot more cleaner once I alter the top mount.....

Nah it's just on the bench out of the way. I wanted it bolted to the front but I don't have ones long enough so I will buy some coach screws when I'm next in town. There are are four vices in that set of shelves would you believe, plus my angle bender!

Mrs TYA went out last night, I had the clean house to my self.
I had beer.
I had forgotten to eat since breakfast.

I had a fire, I made a can smelter.



That is just the bigger bits. Top one weighs in at 4kg.
I was not just melting cans, but alloy with mixed metals in.
I had fun.

Yes, I will let the mad Feng Sui lady see them, with luck she will part with money.

Rebuilt my TIG Pedal, moved the electronics from the pedal itself into a control box I can put on the welder. That way I don't have to pick up the pedal and adjust the min and max settings there. Though I usually have it set for 20-150A anyway. I also got a 5-wire cable so I would have only one wire going from the pedal.

Finished a trammel I've been on with past few Saturdays. Top knurled bits rotate with your hand, held with circlips. A trivial addition maybe but the whole thing has been an exercise in turning which I've just gotten into

Had to make a couple of flanges and a stub shaft to fit a Gardner engine.
The keyway in the crankshaft was knackered so made up a flange that had a 1 1/2" bore for half the distance and 1 1/2" UNF thread the rest. It will screw onto the crankshaft and the rotation of the engine will keep it tight. The other flange I made was welded to a 45mm dia shaft and then faced and spigot machined.

Drill the hole.

Bore to size, this is the second one that gets the thread

Clock up in 4 jaw and face and turn spigot.

Not sure I would class a Triumph as "good kit"
Does the job but plenty others I would rather have. The Churchill Computurn CNC is a far superior machine but for jobs like this it is less hassle to just do it on the manual.

Indeed, Churchill precision machines made weapons for Saddam under some dodgy deal with the Major government...
