Drawing with them isn't too bad, its the rubbing out the mistakes that takes the time.I'll need a bit of practice to match that!

Busy day, MIS, call out and guests.
Call out, well that is 4 hours of my life wasted.
Home, coffee and play pen time.
Quarry Man Chipping/dressing hammer.
Out of the de-rusting tank and a wipe with a cloth, there is some good metal there. Badly pitted and the edges are very soft.
After a hard going with a 30grit disk. This may take some time.
At one point it shifted and fell to the floor and took a chip out of the blade.
After getting the finish I was happy with. Not a perfect finish, but tidy enough to allow the tool to be used. But keeping its history. It was hardened and tempered.
Whole head heated to cherry red and plunged into clean oil. Lucky the neighbours had no washing out.
Then cleaned, and heated to a blue colour on the cutting edges. Not direct heating, but allowing the heat to travel to the edge. then kept warm until the edge was an even deep blue. Then plunged into cold water.
Cleaned up again and fitted to the old shaft. The old shaft was cleaned up and dressed to fit.
All done, waxed with 4oz of bee's wax. I have used it on some old bricks found in a local skip.
Not a bad tool to use.

Repaired head. Local welding shop advised me what rods to use. well gave me a handful of 20 rods.

Never look a gift horse into the mouth.
Hind sight tells me I should of brought a small drum of suitable MIG wire.
Live and learn.
New shaft, single wedge and 2 pack glue.
It will never be used as a hammer again, I can always get another coal hammer.
It will ends its life as a dust magnet.

I like that coal hammer what’s it for
Used to break up big lumps of coal into smaller chunks to fit the new small coal ranges what were becoming the norm in the 1850's to 1890's.
But does that mean sledge hammers are used on..........

@slim_boy_fat The BM discraced itself this morning and I need it on Monday, the earliest I can get a replacement hose and flange from BMW is Tuesday. Looking for alternatives I found these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-Wate...604231?hash=item3fc35d3147:g:Wi4AAOSwXuNcwvam which use the original hose replacing the chocolate plastic spigots.
Too late to buy aluminium I had to improvise with one of these...
From which I made this.
Salvaging the old flange for re use. The hardest part was locating the plastic flange in the four jaw to take off the old broken plastic spigots and bore for the new brass spigot.
I will fit and pressure test in the morning before re filling with coolant and doing the electric pump bleeding routine.
It only has to last for a week as a replacement hose and flange should be waiting for me when I return on the 16th.
Edit: The hose attachment end should have been longer but I will see if it works tomorrow.

Fifth panel finished. Plenty of time, not being installed till the morning..Made a couple of these. Three more to do, but its too hot..

A quick update;
I fitted it this morning, cold pressure tested to 15psi which it held for 10min or so then let it do the bleed cycle and took it for a spin. When I returned it had a very slight weep so the verdict is... It will get me out of trouble but a replacement hose and flange will be ordered from Cotswolds BMW when I get back.

A rivet.
A simple soft steel rivet.
Cleaned up and freed up.
But when tested on a few nails the rivet would snag and lock the handles.
So it was drilled out, using a friends lathe a suitable replacement was turned down. Well I was on his site working.
This doesn't show how new it looks. but it did stand out.
I warmed the whole lot up and dipped it into linseed oil and the result was ok, ish. But it doesn't realy hide the new metal and were I cleaned it up.
Shame.
