I must have a fever or something, yesterday I cleaned out the swarf from the Triumph, today I cleaned the Chiron.
The Chiron was badly in need of a clear out. With me working up the road on the Cat I had been coming to the workshop to make stuff then heading up to fit it and didn't really have time to clean the Chiron. I will need to clean out the coolant though as it is kind of black with all the muck.

Finished my machine moving skates today. Built in turntable with 12mm balls running in a machined groove. Bit of polyurethane glued to the top. Can either have all steerable or lock them together in pairs with a 30mm round bar. Next up on my list is a toejack...

Woke up, good start I thought.
Leapt into action after coffee.
Best way to clean a dirty fire grate is to burn it clean, so I did.
I had some scrap so I used the dirty charcoal and poor coal to clean the fire pit and heat metal.
The metal was scrap on off cuts and small bits of brazing rods left from older jobs.
So a shovel was born.

Made a new welding trolley. It's a slightly unusual design (I think) as the water cooler can only be inserted from above. The reason for that is that it means the feet of the water cooler can sit within the box-section frame at the bottom and the handle of the water cooler can sit within the box-section frame at the top. This was all an attempt to reduce the height as I worked out that if I added up the heights of the welder and the cooler, then added two box section thicknesses and the height of some fairly low-profile castors I had, it wouldn't fit under my bench. With the cooler sitting in the upper and lower box-section frame, it does!
The area to the left of the machines is intended to be used as storage space, but I haven't quite worked out exactly what that's going to look like. Once it's all finished with the storage sorted out, I'll probably paint it as well. I'll try to take some better pictures in daylight tomorrow.
It was also a good chance to make use of my welding arm support, this time mounted directly to the workpiece rather than to the bench:

I had a good look around before designing those. . Have hired skates before, but really battled moving my 5axis cnc lathe. Decided there and then,that improvements could be made on the generic ones. So had a go, addressing the bits I didn’t like. Central hole lets you wind a levelling screw into it, so the skate cannot slip out. I think the polyurethane pad will also help in this aspect as well as being tougher than old boots and pretty much impervious to any grease, coolant that it might come in contact with...

Not made exactly, more tried out..
Have a couple of bits I’d like to make out of Aluminium Chequer Plate, this is an off cut of 3mm I had laying around. I think I need to do a little more setting up, or send it out as I have one crisp corner and three arched corners.

1. Strictly last week rather than today.
The first thread made in anger on my Southbend Lathe. 3/4" Whitworth 10tpi. The manufactured nut was used to confirm the thread was correct. The steel is only mildly magnetic and I can't remember what it is. Might be silver steel. Its not mild steel.

Some shiny ripples!!! I should have read Richard's very good AC TIG guide first as I later found my frequency setting of 60Hz was far too low hence the wide beads. New toy syndrome took over though and I just wanted to play about.

I made people scared.
I also made new pump and sealing washers for paraffin blow torches.
I should add, each washer was made and tested on a good blow lamp. If it failed, it was binned and anew attempt was made. Until that washer/seal worked.
So in theory it all should of worked.
Every seal, every washer failed.
Please note that this image was staged for effects. This is not the failure, just my attempt to show how bad it was.
Poor Dave has the trots, ABC dry powder has that effect on humans. Think bad beer and a bad curry.
That blow torch needs some serious attention, so it was put aside.
Grab another unit and do the same.
All new washers. First attempt at a burn.
One leak, a soldered joint. Bottom of the pump, paraffin is leaking.
So attempt 2.
Just see the blue flame going.
And no leaks.
As I said this is now in the post to a good friend.

Went down to the workshop to get something and ended up doing some more to the slipway axles.
Set up to cut the first slot.
Sadly the travel on the Chiron is not enough to do both in one hit so I quickly welded some Alu together to make a tool to get the slots on the same plane.
All 5 done, still have to bore a hole and a slot for the grease but that can wait until another day. You may also see one of the most rarely used tools in my workshop in that pic
Whilst the Chiron was cutting the slots I fitted some capscrews into the collet chuck, threw it in the Triumph and faced them off. Only took 0.1mm at a time and then once all 3 were fully faced I had to take 7 spring passes before they were done.
And it in the CNC.
