I've been meaning to make a machinist's jack for a long time and finally got round to it this evening. Four pieces, all made out of a single length of 40 mm EN1A bar:
The hole in the bottom of the (top-left) base piece allows it to be fixed down to the mill table if required. The thread is M28×1; chosen fairly arbitrarily. The knurled nut in the bottom-right is used to lock the height; the piece in the bottom-left can rotate freely; I may put a v-groove in that at some point to support round stock. Here it is all assembled:

No its a 47 1/2 ton pickup bog standard at the moment but working on it. I've did drag when I was 18 in a ford pop 12 second run was my best . Great fun, I'm poking a stick at 70 now and would do it again in a heart beat given the chance. Fingers crossed.

Is there a rack available for this make/model already? What's the cost VS this one you have made would you say??
Yep, no point having a rack if you cant tie stuff to it. there must be racks available for it, but I didnt even look. Couple of hours and some offcuts and a bit of left over paint.

Good evening gents. Feel like I have to contribute somewhat.
Was supposed to dismantle the plasma machine for it's upgrade, however that didn't happen. Work that was planned for late January/ early February has been moved forward (a lot) so have been making that stuff over that last few weeks. One of the alli templets that I made about 1.5 years ago I wasn't happy with. Didn't quite fit together, line up and generally give much confidence with. So I made a new one
First half and these are 2.4 meters in diameter and are cut from a 1500mm by 3000mm sheet.
2nd half
Assembled on the welding table.
I am quite pleased as how they turned out. Recalibrated the scriber position and the plasma tolerance was set at .4mm
A lot of knowledge has been gained since I first started this line of work and things are slowly improving. Not a lot achieved yesterday with lost of visitors, chin wagging, tea and coffee being drunked. Well it's Christmas time went home early (normal time for everyone else) had dinner sat down with the kids, started to fall asleep, got told to go to bed by the boss and slept 10hrs. This morning still feel that, that wasn't enough. Last pic the fitup is now quite acceptable.
Best of all that is straight off the plasma no dressing to make it fit

Made a t-nut with curved sides today: the new base I'm making for my bandsaw will stop me from having access to the bottom of the curved slot that allows adjustment of the vice angle. The curved t-nut should sort that out.
Also made two welder's third hands (or should that be one welder's third hand and one welder's fourth hand?!). The rear supports slide up and down (with an M5 screw to hold them in place) depending on the height at which I'm working. For scale, threaded bar is M8; plain bars are 8 mm and the big bit to provide weight is 38 mm diameter.
There have been a few times recently I've thought it would be useful to have one of these. What are the odds that, now I've got them, I won't need them again for a long, long time?!

With help from a friend, who provided the brains.
I provided food and tea.
Coronet Minor Lathe.
This is when the original motor worked.
The lathe is mounted on a Hard wood base, old door. The wood is doweled and glued.
The old motor base was adapted and rotated.
The middle metal plate has 4 bolts holding the metal/wood sandwich to the lathe motor frame. The Motor uses, the only metric fixings, to hold it to the metal in the sandwich.
All done.

So after the wood being sat in the van for nearly 4 months and thinking with christmas coming and family due round I needed a dining room table sorted.
So not sure if its finished as having second thoughts on the piece of wood chosen but will have too do for now.
So squared up the legs and the ends and built a brace frame to mount the slab on.
