I made all sorts today...started making the top/lid for my lorry battery tray....got to make the front part yet and some other bits..but as I haven't made my metal folder yet I had to improvise....a couple of lumps of 25mm ply wood...two hinges and 12 screws and job done..this simple thing took 10 Mins to make and will bend 1.5mm mild steel..and does an OK job.

Made an elaborate box and mounting bracket for the pressure switch manifold I posted a while back. Just the lid to do.

Made a temporary run of ducting to get welding/plasma fumes out of the new building before we install something more permanent and suitable.

It's going to continue out the door and it hooks up to the collar I fitted to the plasma/weld bench I finished yesterday. Just a lick of paint needed and that's another job of the list.

Got some trunking up and a few sockets dotted about as the old gear was not good to say the least.

And then we did a few bays for the exhibition, got to run in some lights and some power outlets then can get ready for suppliers to arrive and help them with whatever they need to set up.

I'm shattered, it's been a hell of a couple of weeks and you find out who are the team players and who definitely have other priorities when you take on a big project like this.

@spencer 427 , My battery cover was missing on my FL220 when I got it, I think most of them are looking a bit secondhand laying about in hardshoulders

I made mine out of 2mm steel and nailed some chequer plate to the top, pretty sturdy when clambering around on it

My tray had completely rotten away..I looked in my local lorry scrap yard but they didn't have any...I might even redesign mine to accomodate the steep it had originally...thanks for the post/picture.

I pulled some beetroot and some rhubarb yesterday and made some wine, 10 gallons of each.

Today its been bus chassis time, fortunately it came as a kit of parts and only needed assembling on the jig, aligning, and welding together.

Horrible 25mm SHS infills, bent 8 times in opposite directions, on the 45 degree. All panels tapering by different amounts meaning different bar lengths.

40 odd panels done. Nasty

Do a lot of work for this outfit, and they were stuck, so you have to help out don't you.

If it helps, they look really good. Not sure it's a style I would choose but the workmanship looks top notch, as always.

@spencer 427 you are getting some impressing looking bends with your 25mm ply folder.

Back at the workshop today to make some bits for the 10m Cheetah Catamaran I am fitting out.
First is a holder for the deck hose. Used a bit of 6" dia tube and some 5mm plate.

Then it was a couple of crab cutting sticks made from 50mm Dia x 500mm long Delrin and some Alu tube that will be welded into the shooting table to act as sockets for the sticks.

Tried hard to find some stainless hinges to fit into stainless handrail but couldn't find any at all which surprised me, so had to design and make some myself.
I almost got the hinge/keeper for the handrail finished but not quite. Inside the section of handrail tube there is a Delrin socket held with two countersunk screws. The spring fits in there and then the plunger which will slide into the other rail. I still have to slot the tube and drill/tap the plunger so that I can fit a small handle so that it can be pushed into the spring and released from the opposing section of handrail.

The hinges will be welded in to the tube, still have to make a connecting section for the hinge so that the rail can be folded 180degrees, it is simple enough to make, just a piece of 10mm thick stainless with two holes and rounded ends so should get it finished in the morning and hopefully welded in place tomorrow.

Thanks Chris. It's done OK to be honest. A slight radius on the folds but it's workable. Will be a proper folder at some point.

@Hood Please dont look to closely at my turning


Attacking the brakes on a trailer ATM and changing the bushes , spun up a couple of two ended drifts with a striking button on each end so they can be hit without distorting the mandrel.One end to drift out the bush and the other to seat the new on in flush, worked well but I should have allowed a bit more striking button.

Cheers. I could make it to fold tightly but it only took 10 minutes to make just to do the cover...
