Modified rather than made... Added a cable hanger to my torch holder...

Many will tell you not to store a mig torch like that as the weight of the cable stresses the torch neck & can make it loose in the handle!

On the other hand I have been using a piece of pipe welded under the top rail of my bench to hold my torch when I'm welding, similar to you & the torch is still ok!

I saw the idea at an exhaust factory I worked in, every one of the many welding benches had a pipe welded to it for the torch.

Until I can find a more convenient way to hold it I'll take the risk I think. No issues with the torch so far.... Maybe it would be an issue if it got more use, but mostly it just sits there... I would imagine it would get damaged quicker if it was being put into/taken out of the pipe more often.


Edit to add: Also if it breaks that could be the excuse I'm looking for to buy a 5m torch...

Few I have helped make in the past.
The wood ones are made from reclaimed wood and used for a photo shoot.

Then cast in foam for the meetings.

The shaft was old, but been in a workshop for a while.
Hand scarper had most of the dirt off. A polish on the lathe.

The head was wire brushed and polished.



Yes, I have saved another hammer.

Found a 10mm bit of steel plate and made a few holes to make a strengthener for the swager, I rarely use use it to do wider panels and the idea is to put an adjustable stop bar on the steel plate as a guide system.

Had a bit more practice on the milling machine today. I’m determined to get this poker looking a bit better, so set it up using an ER32 collet in a square collet holder, and an angled precision plate in the vice.

I’m starting to get the hang of this stuff, just give me another 10 years practice.

It’s the big end of the no.5 connecting rod. The piston was so stuck that I flared the end of the rod out by beating on it.

Fortunately all the pieces I need are intact.

Today made a neoprene stock protector for the lady of the manor's shotgun.

Couldn't find anything she liked as was all either bland or camo which she didnt want.

So fired up the sewing machine and a £3.99 ebay special neoprene pencil case. And about 30mins later have got this.

Happy with the results. And should the stocks from knocks and scrapes as well as a little cheek protection.
