@Paul99 I like that idea and will probably make one up as well but you do need to be very careful with the rpm rating of the disc, the 5" are for grinders that operate in the 10,000 rpm range and some of those die grinders wizz north of 25,000 rpm, some much more. . Not going to say there will be a problem but a friend lost the top off his knuckles when a disc exploded, he was using the worn out 9"discs on a 5"grinder.

Tbh I haven't done the calculations this time around to work it out but did check it many years ago using worn down 9" discs on a 5" grinder and from what I remember it turned out that by the time the disc got down to 5" it was well within safe limits. I'm sure I've even seen similar calculations here on the forum showing the very same thing.

Still good to point it out for those who might think they might get away using full size discs on such an adapter.

Yep no doubt no load speed will be far greater on a cut off tool. In the cut it's going far far less especially on my cheap gutless tool. Given the diameter of the discs that will be used and some common sense I'm happy enough to carry on. If you're not confident in doing it though then just don't make one as you're not going to find one to buy.

Paul I meant to add a sentence but had a senior moment, its an air tool so revs can be throttled down and kept in check.

The grinder accident happened a few meters away from where I was standing, I am not good with blood and guts but it was down to me to run him up to A+E. It was only when I got back and went through everything that he told me about the discs, thats when I noticed the rpm rating .

Sounds interesting but I can't quite picture how you have that set up powered with a cut off tool got any pics?

Just had a quick look at maths (actually I cheated with an online converter: http://www.onlineconversion.com/wheel_surface_speed.htm)

assuming 22000 rpm to stick to a maximum surface speed of 80m/s which these discs and all other discs of this type (to my knowledge) are rated at the diameter can be a maximum of 2.8" so my guess that nothing catastophic was likely to happen was right.

Rob - If you want some tips on etching aluminium I just spent three weeks of faffing to get some decent results here. Happy to share

cover the top with fablon . draw your design cut out with scalpel or sharp blade and sand blast. pull off plastic and your done

Roller system starting to take shape, have more done but forgot to take a pic at the end of the day. Just have a side roller to make and that will be the outside finished then on to the table and hauler mount, cut down hatch combing and make housing for control handles, jog lever and hydraulic rotary valve.
