Were they the ones with yellow plastic grips or the earlier ones with no grips? I have both and they still work fine I must admit, the quality of the tools were usually very good.

The just metal handle with compound action, i bought myself a pair which were awful in comparison to my dads pair. The handles are open and sharp and the cutter profile is different not as small

I’ve got a couple of pairs of the Maun side cutters still, they keep trying to go walkies, my son covets them. He can’t have them, they are irreplaceable! Most of the tools were good, not all though, screwdrivers were pot luck from what I remember most were ok, some were made of cheese. This was a long time ago, 40 years since I was out on the tools.

Cut up some 8mm and 6mm 5083 on the plasma.

Stuck it together with the Mig.

Test fitted in the car, have a wee bit of cutting of the floor tray and plastic cover to do but should fit fine.

Sorry couldn't resist, it is a bracket for holding the E33 Argon cylinders as I am sick fed up of having to tie them in place.

Here is a pic of it clamped to a cylinder, first a view from the front which would actually be underneath when in the car.

Then a view from the top which shows how it holds the cylinder.

Not so much made today but more made work i have a Paramo no.38 Vice with a push button quick release that has never worked, the button was stuck in and i ended up drilling it to tap a thread in and used the slide hammer, all cleaned up and olied now ready to go back together, they really are quite a good design.

Sadly cars do not usually come in Aluminium but at least I am adding some Alu in the form of the bracket.

Brings back memories! I've still got the odd tool or two from my GPO days, I'll have to dig them out.

I still have my 81s from my GPO/BT days. I wonder how many on here know what they are?

Non-welding related, but today I made a thing shiney.

Today, in a moment of weakness, I set out to polish up the h/light lenses as they were just starting to get a bit 'cloudy' again. Since it was a nice morning, not too hot and we've missed all the torrential rain, I thought "I'll just polish the bonnet and front wings while I'm here.......:whistling: Cue my doing right round the car until the humidity got to me and I decided enough was enough. She should really get the full treatment...clay, machine polish, glaze, wax and [possibly] sealant, but I'm not up for that just at the moment. ops:

That just leaves me with the front bumper/valance to do, but it won't be for a few days as my pal is coming to stop over, with a 'secret' job he wants me to weld for him. 'Secret' because he wouldn't say what it was, just that it'd involve 3mm steel...

Anyway, this is what I ended up with - quite pleased for 17 years old and 137,000 miles on her. Fitted a new boot badge as the old one was starting to get a bit 2nd-hand looking. ops:







Got her booked in with the nearest Dealers because of a safety recall - earliest available slot....15th October . Apparently it's to do with the wiring in the boot and if they find a problem they'll need the car for 2 > 3 days. Might get a nice new BMer as a loaner if so...

I can't believe a manufacturer would do a recall on a 17-year-old car - maybe just say "Put it in the bin, Sir"
