Good morning gents. My two cents worth.
So the new bigger plasma table has been christened, so lets get started on the new project. Boat plates have been cut and the assembly was started yesterday, lunchtime.
Very awkward to handle in this state
and finally tacked up just about ready for turning over. Just need the transon welded on and she's good to flip.
Put some trollies underneath and we have a mobile boat. At least I can now get to the plasma table to cut some other components out

Despise making grills or railings. This is for a customer who has been broken into.
I prefer to do a through hole then weld but as usual price is an issue so drilling 30 16mm holes is out of the window and I haven’t got the offset punches you’d need for doing angle iron in the kingsland. I really should look into getting those!

That’s a good job, I can it can be a bit hairy.
Last weekends job was some forklift forks for the tractor. Unloading large bags of fertilizer with the silage forks destroys the pallets, threatens to break expensive tines and one day we will puncture a bag o fertilizer.
You can buy attachments ready to go, but this involves spending money and this causes farmers to break out in spots. They cost around $NZ1600 (about 800 pounds)
I got some second hand fork lift forks ($300), and a Euro Hitch bracket ($130) to fit the tractor loader and some steel (about $300 ish) for the frame. It is pretty hard to compete with Chinese imports if you have to buy new materials or your time is worth anything
The forks slide on a 75*16mm flat top and bottom. Most home made ones don't have the locking cutouts of real forklifts, but since I had a milling machine and 20mm cutter...
It is heavy, might have been slightly overbuilt. The frame is 100*10*4mm RHS.
I accidentally bought a couple of pallet loads of welding rods 30 years ago from a shipyard and i have used and given away a lot over the years, but still have lots of 4 and 5mm 6011 and 7014 rods so when I get heavy work, it is a chance to use some up.

Well, today I did some actual real Mig Welding. For lots of reasons I decided to buy a Lincoln Bester Mig set. I am really pleased with it, it is lighter and smaller than the sets I was looking at and it fits in it's nook in the workshop just perfectly. These are some brackets for a target changer system we are trying to build and these are the prototypes. Welding is fine for a first attempt I think, I am happy with it anyway, it isn't going to fall off thats for sure.

This is my little travel camping stove. A nice bit of kit. Small light weight and burns very hot.
It uses paraffin as a fuel.
Allan, a useful friend, likes to go fishing. So this is good for him to use on his night of drowning worms.
Please note the following
Spare seals.
No leak.
Today Allan arrived at my place bringing gifts.
There was a catch, there is always a catch.
Can any one see why I was not happy?

Fuel leak and air leak.
Fuel leak was from the Non return valve in the pump letting fuel back up into the pump body.
Not a unknown issue, but not something I find everyday.
This is what an air leak makes the burning paraffin burns. It syphon's the fuel up, not under pressure, so it does not vaporise and burn hot.
Further investigation found out that he had "Googled" what fuel to use. Oddly as a Paraffin stove it is paraffin.
He did not want to buy paraffin, so google told him mix 2 cups of petrol with 5 litres of diesel.
Modern seals this has no effect.
Original seals it eats them.
No choice but a full strip down.
New seals, modern versions. But I did extract funds for them.
Now, before any one jumps up and down.
STAGED.
But this is how this stove burns when up to operating temperature. Look close you can see the defector ring showing the copper colour.
Cap it as soon as it gets hot and you get the correct flame and flame spread.
makes a great Ratt Pack steam pudding.

Today an old hard working workshop friend finally gave up the ghost.
In my time it was worked hard, was used in a few MIS projects.
The above picture shows it working, a hot short flame.
This is it today. I must put up my hands to it's final passing.
I used Paraffin, it is a Benzene fuel torch. In theory that should not of made a difference, apart from the operating temperature.
So a quick strip down.
The seals have gone. It happens sometimes when you dismantle an old item like this.
But the needle point has worn and so has the removable jet.
So has it warms up, the pressure leaks away and no heat is generated.
A quick phone call and the future was soon chosen.
The cost make sit not worth it.
Shame, but it worked hard.

As soon as this was taken, the Meths. was put out and we went outside.
First test is to see if the pump works, it did, ish.
Then you immerse it in water up to the neck nut and check for leaks. No leaks.
It fired and worked well.
Normal issues.
Stripped down, new seals, jet cleaned and a wipe over to remove any oil dirt.
This really doesn't do it justice.

Yes the nozzle is glowing red hot.

I did something today I would not normally do.Had two open flame devices going in the workshop.
yes, 2.
No other reason, than I could. Allan is a small member of the human race not to panic in a fire situation. Plus I know he can use a Fire extinguisher.

There's a bigger gap than I'm happy with on the left where the ceiling meets the wall but it'll get hidden with trunking when I wire the light in properly. I'm blaming my tools, would have came out perfect if I had a tracksaw.At least the nailgun is earning it's keep.

I made a couple flats on a bit bar, while the bar was still spinning, as I finally got the new lathe fully working tonight 
That was just the example I created for testing the machine, so now I need to decide how I'm going to juggle tools for the proper parts I need to make.
