Seem to recall being told the thicker the material the more off square the edge could go. I had some 30mm nylon cut into funky shapes before. Edge is weird, like fine serrated vertical lines.

You can cut MDF too. Where it gets wet it shrinks back to size apparently.

I got some 60mm steel cut and there was a bit of a bevel on the edge but seemingly they can offset the head to allow for that if they can be ersed, mine was a freebie so they couldn't be ersed
Didn't matter for me as I had spec'd oversize as I was doing a load of machining to it anyway as it was for the first turret I made for the lathe, will see if I can find pics.

I made a new table for my bargain Aldi portable bandsaw ( that still allows it to work as the chop saw as well) and allows it to be mounted in the vice as a vertical bandsaw

My other half ordered some wool for a crochet pattern but then realised she didn't have a hook of the right size. I thought I'd have a go...

It's made out of an offcut of American black walnut. The outer diameter was made with a dowel plate; I then put it in the metal lathe and turned the inner diameter. The rest of the shaping was done with files.

I also made a simple push block for the table saw out of a bit of dowel and some offcuts of plywood:

This is how it'll be used:

At the moment it's held together with brad nails, but after a few tests, I'll probably take it apart and glue (and maybe dowel) it instead, just in case I'm stupid enough to try to use it with the blade all the way up and cutting slightly into the push block!

Love your workshop, what kind of band saw is that ? It's pretty.

Thanks Barking Mat; the bandsaw is a Wilmac. It was advertised on eBay as "seller refurbished" I paid £150 for a lump of scrap having examined it in more detail in my workshop; I fully restored and much modified it now its a joy to own and use; it has a 6" depth of cut and a 12" throat making it very useful indeed on a small footprint. The main bearing drive housing was broken; I removed the housing and scrapped it replacing it with a pair of new bearing housings back to back and turned a new drive shaft allowing a belt drive motor to be installed.

Not what I expected; seller refurbished? I'm pleased it wasn't described as needing work.

I got this keyway cutting idea from YouTube and it's brilliant so it's not my idea.

Keyway cutting under way; a difficult job made very easy indeed and a keyway cutting jig like this can be cheaply made to fit any metal turning lathe.

I'm unsure what size the motor is but I had it to hand and its well on top of the job; the new pulley's are taper lock. It's surprising how much I use this bandsaw; it also cuts aluminium with ease using a 4TPI blade. I find restoring and modifying machines very easy to do and derive a great deal of pleasure from the actual restoration as I do in using the machines. This Wilmac replaced my huge industrial 3 phase Startrite Volant 24" which had ten speeds and onboard blade cutter; welder; grinder and annealer; I had fully restored the Startrite too but it was just much too big for my workshop.

Made a couple of simple slotted jigs to let me accurately cut the lip slots of wooden lures with the scroll saw. I seem to mess too many up when going freehand on the bandsaw.

We looked into making a man riding cage for a customer before. Paperwork and certification would cost more than the job was worth!

I bought a proper certified man cage. First thing I had to do was put a sheet of wood in the floor as it was so flimsy. But never mind it is within spec

Working (tinkering) in the shed & a large aerosol of gold paint fell off the shelf, as it hid the deck split open & sprayed everything & everywhere with gold paint, me included. You have never seen anything like it, it’s the sort of thing you see on these disaster clips. Only good thing is it’s cellulose so it has dried quickly.

It can’t be as bad as when I went into the Dulux trade centre in Gloucester one time, the guy delivering the paint ran the pallet truck straight out over the back of the lorry, all the lids came off & tins split, about 40 gallons all over the floor.
