I believe it's called a barrel nut adjuster, I'm not really sure but it screws into a boss on a bike frame and the brake cable passes through it to give some adjustment. Brass because it should seize up as bad as steel or alu should it get wet, unfortunately the smallest price of brass I had was 1 1/4" diameter so I made quite a bit of swarf. :laughing:

Well I got my shiny discs and pads done today but as expected that only kept me interested for an hour or so, anyway my shed roof is the current project but the weather is beginning to slow my progress.

I quite like machining plastic, used to make a few control panel gears/shafts/bushes etc but I was suprised at how hot it can get when cutting. I use an oil loaded plastic now for my tower bearings, they need to stand a lot of thrust but at 1/2 rpm or so. They last maybe a few years before the wind takes its toll. I think the next one is going to have a replaceable bearing bit.

Delrin/Acetal is beautiful stuff to machine, nylon horrible. Nylon also absorbs quite a bit of moisture so is not ideal for some marine applications, delrin and acetal absorb a lot less so are used a lot for bushings etc on boats.

Oilcast nylon is the stuff I use, I bought some which was equally self lubricating but had glass fibre in it - that was very hard to machine but worked very well, all the offcuts I come across now are expensive.

Have used Oilon before, basically oil impregnated Nylon, just as awful to machine and didn't really last much longer than standard Nylon for the rollers I used it for and was quite a bit more expensive.

Will there be high level diagonal steel wire tensioning braces to help keep it square & rock solid?

Well after three days she has finally given up that 'booty'. I have finally managed to split her.

The problem with the articulation was the joint under the cab, circlip went missing

There was also the seized pins for the bucket tilt

These had been heated and seized the pin in. Had to drill a 1/4" hole near the edge of the pin, then drill with a rota broach as deep as possible and finally press out with a 20ton jack

^^^ God that looks like an accident waiting to happen. I bet the old 'rear valve' was twitching when you pulled the two halves apart, looks like a big job.

The gantries are currently being used with 8 punch bags and two sets of rings at the same time and steel work wise nothing is moving.

However there is already talk of making and installing a set of corner to corner X lattice gantries identical to the top sides so that more hang equipment can be used and the floor space utilised

Yes Jim i can confirm that the rear valve was twitching quite a bit,but in the end it was a non event. The front end is just slightly heavier, even without the bucket and a little help from the crane in my truck, we 'couple of the boy at the site' just walked the front end forward and rested it on the ground. The rear has three stands underneath, as two didn't seem enough :thumbup:

Well it seem pretty good yesterday, it was 18 degrees no wind and sunshine, but that changed, it got cool and windy. This morning woke up cold, the forecast snow down to 700 meters and we are at 620 meters. It was 3.2 at 9.30 am and I have no doors to close. To be honest I always wanted a place out here 'in the west' but after being here i am cured. I like the cold but not this cold and windy. At my workshop I can at least close the front door to stop the wind and the internals stay relatively the same temp. But here there can be over 20 degree temp difference from one day to the next. In a couple of days it is supposed to get down to -5 again. Slim they put me in the middle bay in case we had to pull the cab off the loader using telli handlers, but they have been parking the trucks in either side so they start in the mornings due to the cold. At my workshop i have trolleys with wheels so I can put parts on them and them move them out of the way, here everything is on the ground. When the wind blows it swirls around and just blows everything into this space. You can sweep it twice a day and it still looks the same :doh:
