Finally made a saddle bracket for my telescope, to replace the broken one. Used my cheap multi cutter end mill thingy to square up the aluminium, then cut, drilled, and tapped the necessary after removing lots of metal. Was impressed how well the multi head cutter took off metal, and that all the holes lined up. All done on my little Warko mill.
Made a cod at the last cut, by inadvertently using a blunt end mill, which sort of ‘smeared’ the metal, rather than cut it. Nothing that can’t be sorted with a bit of filing when I’m doing the last bit of finishing before painting.
My plan is to eventually dismantle the whole thing, as the unit got a bit rusty after being stored in a leaky hut, but a few hours on it yesterday has beaten the red death back enough to make everything useable. I’ve mounted the telescope in the stand, and everything feels secure.
