Drilled and tapped a bit of titanium plate and fitted the steel knife onto it so I could use the Haimer to get the angle correct for milling the stainless knife.
Bolted the stainless knife to the plate and started milling.
One side done.
Flipped it on the plate and milled the other side.
Stainless knife and original steel one for comparison. The stainless one is a few mm shorter on the end where the holes are as the chunk of stainless I was given was just too short but that won't make any difference to the performance.

Today I spent most of the day drilling the spotwelds out of two old Austin1100 wheels from my trailer, so I could fit them to two 12inch mini wheels (thats four wheels to break apart), the 1100 rims had rusted through.
I must be nuts...

Bit of fun the last few days.
I got this penknife a few weeks ago, it sat around for a bit, so the last few days I have striped it and cleaned it up. Only to find a surprize.
The case was swollen with rust, the loop was broken and the blade was curved from years of sharpening.
Broken down into bits and left in Citric acid for a few days.
When the metal parts were cleaned up a Government Broad arrow, a date stamp, a name and a Ships Book number was found, on different parts.
Plus some soft metal bars to make new rivets.
RHS Third and fourth parts form the blade springs. The look identical, but they are not. So it is best to make sure you know what spring goes with what blade.
Assembled and new edges onto the blades.
The Royal British Legion have ben sent an E mail to see if we can get more details on the owner, with luck return it to the family.

Not made, but fixed. Next door neighbours go Litter picking. The grabbers break. I fix them, The one today was a pin lost from the trigger. It took me longer to print my 'FIXED BY DAVE' sticker than it did to put a bolt in it. I don't charge them. I make noise, they don't complain.

Last weekend I was given a lot of tools and other fun stuff. The MIS are not fully open, so we have been fixing the items up at my place..
Means we have a laugh and I get lots of biscuits.
A quick look at the power tools showed they all needed some urgent safety attention. None past a PAT inspection.
The B&D planer was a good example. But being of a certain age a repair is easily done, with little or no cost.
This is what was wrong with this tool and why it faied the PAT.
There is a scary unknown horror under this mass of tape. I am betting the cable was "planed".
Not even soldered. There is a bit of T&E in this picture, that was used as a brace for the repair.
This is frustrating, as theses B&D tools are easy to repair.
A No.2 Cross head screwdriver will have the case in parts, as you can see lots of room and screw fixings for the switch.
Modern B&D switches can be re wired if you know the rick
All I did was re make the cable and test.
Reassembled, not PAT inspected as a new plug is required. Before it goes to MIS or a tool charity it will have one fitted.

Plus a crow bar.
These make a good place to start to show people how to restore tools, using different ways.
The Stillsons show little or no wear, the springs are still strong, so stripped and de rusted using citric acid paste.
Washed off with warm water and wire wool. Then dried to drive out any trapped water.
All finished.
The other two were de-rusted using electrolysis.
The results, not as good as I hoped.
But with wire wool and wax/oil we ened with this.
The crow bar was used to educate a new MIS member what can be done with a 4 1/2 grinder.
They have gone and brought one for them selfs.
Made use of the sun and the empty cloths line.
A nice No5 Plane, but in need of some TLC.

Just thought I'd share some small scale production techniques. I need to make a number of these folded metal items from 1.5mm CRS
This was a prototype cut from sheet using an angle grinder and folded with a box pan folder. The small upturn was folded longer and then trimmed afterwards.
The final product..
