First head cast.
The shrinkage meant that the lead did not stick the copper.

When I built my regulator clock, the weight was a lead filled brass tube, it weighs 21 pounds. The usual trick is line the inside of the brass tube with two sheets of A4 paper, then pour the lead. The paper only chars a bit, and the lead is an easy fit in the brass tube.

I found some lead sheet, I was going to cut some bits for vice soft jaws and melt for a hammer but I havent found a suitable tube to pour it in.

Another quick one, double ended slugger shaft from 30mm bar, to use in the er40.

For manual lathes with a compound this makes the most sense... Easiest to calculate, and easiest to cut as well. I've had my compound set at 30 degrees permanently since I set it up lol

Not got a reference, but a bit of Pythagoras gets you 1.3mm as the depth on a 1.5 pitch 60° thread.

Metric threads do not have sharply pointed roots or crests, so that calculation is incorrect.

You have calculated H in the Wikipedia diagram (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_metric_screw_thread) and a good first stab at the infeed for an external thread is closer to 5/8H.

Note also that the nominal diameter of an external metric thread is also its major diameter, so the H/8 that forms the crest is outside the stock you are cutting.

The exact value of infeed will also depend on whether you are using a pitch-specific insert or one from the A60, AG60 or G60 family.

How do you cut threads without the compound aligned with the trailing flank? I'm forever moving mine, as soon as I'm done cutting a thread I find I need a big accurate chamfer, and no sooner have I done that and the corner of it is catching the chuck jaw and I need to swing it around again. I'd love to replace it with a big solid block and use form tools for chamfering. One day...

I dont use compound for threading but mines awaiting improvement. The toolpost stud was replaced with M12, and there was a protruding boss on the other side which has broken off, leaving just 4.5 turns of m12 thread in cast iron, also with a 3mm dowel hole in the thread.
I am thinking that M14 x 1-1.5mm pitch would be adequate. The counterbore is 19mm.

Theres also the mount for it, needs a new one, which is difficult with the existing design and lack of centre height.

I think you may have addressed the wrong problem. In cases like this, the solution is to put 11 at its maximum travel.

Got a ram for this first thing this morning and made mounts and pins to suit.
It works! It works well! Already used it to move 6m beams into a narrow shed with a tight entrance. Previously it would have taken lots of shuffling. Now it's just a case of driving straight in in a one-er.

it’s for a house called ‘Bagan’. The chaps wife is Burmese.
